Becoming Beacons of Hope through the Lens of Awareness
We are off and running this 2024-2025 school year. As the Engagement and Inclusion (E&I) Specialist, I look forward to guiding our community on Becoming Beacons of Hope through the lens of awareness. What does this mean? This school year we will be exploring cultural celebrations, histories and traditions, as well as additional topics such as neurodiversity, and intersectionality. Why these topics? As the Pope has called us to “be tangible signs of hope for brothers and sisters who are experiencing hardship” we must teach our students the skills to engage and include the many different types of individuals they will encounter as they venture off into the world. They can practice these skills in the safety of our St. Francis community. How will this be done? Through assemblies/events, educational opportunities/workshops and open-minded conversations. The overall goal is to create an environment that allows the students to feel safe, valued and heard while also being able to hear the experiences of others that differ from their own. This can only happen when we work as a team between home and school to build a supportive collaborative to enhance our students’ experiences.
These are the E&I assemblies that will be held this 2024-2025 school year:
- September 13- Interfaith Assembly
- October 2- Hispanic Heritage Assembly
- February 12- Black History Assembly
- March 12- Women’s History Assembly
- April 29- Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Assembly
