Fall Sports Update: Sept 13, 2024

News

Cross Country: Coach Chad Worthen returns for his third cross country season with the Troubies. This program graduated a lot of strong senior runners last year, but has a strong influx of young standouts that look to push the Troubies to new heights this year.

Flag Football: Coach Quincy Cooper was promoted from assistant to head varsity coach for the flag football program’s second year. His positive spirit and high energy is something the girls feed off of. The program is so popular among our Troubies, we now have a full-fledged JV program after the inaugural season last year. We have over 60 girls in this program between the two levels of play. Flag Football has their Booster BBQ on Thursday, September 19th vs Granite Bay. Make sure to come out and grab some food and cheer them on. The JV game starts at 4pm and Varsity at 5pm on the grass field at St. Francis.

Golf: Coach Jennifer Moore ‘09 took over the golf program this season. Coach Moore was a part of three NorCal Championship teams as a Troubie golfer and also played Division 1 golf. Her connection in the golf industry in the Sacramento area has helped the team schedule practice rounds at strong courses where the Troubies will play during league and playoff matches.

Tennis: Veteran tennis coach Kristi Spector retired this past season and we were fortunate to find a great replacement in Matt Brunner. Coach Brunner is also the head coach of Jesuit’s tennis program. This new connection helped the Troubies find ample court space at Rollingwood YMCA for practices and games. For many years the Troubies didn’t have a home court for tennis so they had to travel for almost every match over the past few years. This new partnership also allowed St. Francis to start a JV level and the program has grown to 27 girls (as opposed to only 18 last year due to court space issues).

Volleyball: Varsity coach Alynn Wright retired after 35 years at the helm of the St. Francis Volleyball program. Her daughter, long time JV coach, Taryn Campbell, has taken over as the varsity coach as this program legacy stays in the family. Taryn has assembled an excellent staff of JV and Freshman team coaches as well.

Water Polo: Gaby Hawkins is in her second year as head varsity coach and is one of the most well-respected water polo coaches in the area. For the first time in many years, the Troubies will have a full league schedule as the Delta League had only two other water polo programs. The SFL has a full 16 game league schedule which they are excited about.
