SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team had four players break 40 as the Troubadours posted a 192-217 victory over Davis. SF had five of the top six scores on the day led by junior Nashla Aguero’s even-par 36.

“One of the goals I asked the girls to do today was hit as many greens as possible,” said Head Coach Bert Jones. “They did that and it is one of the reasons the scores were so low.”

Aguero birdied the par-5 fourth hole and par-3 fifth hole to help erase an opening bogey on the first hole. She recorded a second bogey on the eighth but finished with a strong par on the finishing ninth hole.

Senior Patricia Sweeney opened with a birdie on the first before following with a bogey on the second. She recorded seven straight pars before posting a bogey on the final hole for a one-over par 37. Classmate Olivia Alcoran carded a two-over par 38 with three bogeys and a birdie on the sixth hole.

“The team is better than they were last year at this point,” said Jones. “We have good team chemistry between the players and team spirit. Patricia and Olivia have done an extra-ordinary job.”

Sophomore Haanya Niazi was fifth overall in the match, the fourth-best on the team, with a three-over par 39.

“I think I played really well but I could have done better,” said Niazi. “My short game was not at its peak today. But our team played really well. We got a really good win today and did great.”

The Troubies also got a 42 from sophomore Madeline Lee and 46 by sophomore Olivia Reed.

“It feels so good and it motivates you to play well every time out,” said Niazi. “It gives you the mindset that you can do it and do it again.”

St. Francis is undefeated on the season, winning its 28th consecutive Delta League match.

The Troubadours play a pair of scrimmages against Cosumnes Oaks on Tuesday and Wednesday.
