Golfer Olivia Alcoran to Play in 2018 PURE Insurance Championship This Week

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Olivia Alcoran will participate in the 2018 PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee tournament at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach from Sept. 25 – Sept. 30, 2018.

“I have been looking forward to this opportunity since I was little,” said Alcoran. “I’ve been to the tournament and to get to play in it will be pretty cool.”

Alumna Golfer Marissa Mar ’10 Advances to U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – St. Francis Alumna Marissa Mar ’10 advanced to the Round of 64 match play at the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur on Sunday, finishing tied for 10th after a two-over par 74 on Sunday at the Norwood Hills Country Club. She opened with a 76 in the opening round on Saturday.

Mar, a Stanford graduate, was a semifinalist in the event in 2017 and tied for medalist honors after shooting a 142 in stroke play. She had four birdies on six bogeys on Sunday to card her 74.

Siy and Reed Lead Squad in Scrimmage

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Amanda Siy and sophomore Olivia Reed each shot rounds of 42 as St. Francis defeated Cosumnes Oaks 234-291 in a scrimmage on Tuesday at Emerald Lakes Golf Course.

Freshman Justine Canio carded a 46 to post the third score, while sophomore Natalie Graybill posted a 51 and Isabel Tsui had a 53.

Golf Defeats Davis in Delta Dual Match

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team had four players break 40 as the Troubadours posted a 192-217 victory over Davis. SF had five of the top six scores on the day led by junior Nashla Aguero’s even-par 36.

“One of the goals I asked the girls to do today was hit as many greens as possible,” said Head Coach Bert Jones. “They did that and it is one of the reasons the scores were so low.”

Golf Defeats Franklin in Delta Dual 187-233

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Senior Patricia Sweeney shot an even-par 33 at the Emerald Lake Golf Course Wednesday to lead the St. Francis golf team to a 187-233 for a 46-stroke victory over Franklin. It was the 27th consecutive Delta League dual win for the Troubadours.

Sweeney opened with a birdie on the first hold and bogeyed the second before posting seven consecutive pars to post her score of 33, tying Franklin’s Courtney Cervellin for medalist honors in the match.

Golf Wins Delta League Center

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Senior Patricia Sweeney shot a six-over par 78 to finish second at the first Delta League Center match Monday at Wildhawk Golf Course and lead the Troubadours to the match win.

St. Francis won the team title with a 406 team score to defeat Pleasant Grover (436) and Davis (477). Cosumnes Oaks was fourth overall (509) and Franklin fifth (542). Overall, seven teams played on Monday with a total of 37 players.

Golf Wins Delta League Opener over Elk Grove

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Haanya Niazi shot a two-over par 38 to tie for medalist honors and help St. Francis post a 198 team score against Elk Grove in the Delta League opener for both teams at Haggin Oaks.

Niazi, who shot an even-par 36 in the qualifier, bogeyed the first, third and fourth holes and posted a birdie on the eighth along with four pars to record a competitive personal-best 38 in her first competitive prep round. She shot a 47 in her only action as a freshman.

Golfer Patricia Sweeney Named Triple-Impact Finalist

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior golfer Patricia Sweeney has been named a Positive Coaching Alliance Triple Impact Competitor Award Finalists.  This award recognizes student athletes that embody the PCA principles of ”Making oneself Better, Making Teammates Better, and Making their Community Better”

St. Francis Golf Coach Bert Jones Named Top 100 Instructor

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – On the eve of Father’s Day, St. Francis golf coach Bert Jones remembers a piece of advice his father once told him “that you should always leave the game a little bit better than you found it”.

He lives daily by those words and they are a major reason why has been selected one of the Top 100 Instructors for 2019-20 by the World Teachers Golf Federation. The list will be published in the upcoming June 2018 issue of Teaching Pro Magazine.

Golfer Olivia Alcoran Chosen for First Tee Leadership Academy

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Rising St. Francis senior Olivia Alcoran was selected by The First Tee of Greater Sacramento (TFTGS) to represent the chapter at the 2018 The First Tee Northern California Leadership Academy. The event’s activities will be held at locations in the Monterey, CA and Pebble Beach area from June 17-20, 2018.

The event is comprised of 60 young people from The First Tee and Youth on Course Northern California network who are committed to The First Tee’s Nine Core Values.

2017 Golf Highlights

St. Francis Head Coach Bert Jones was named the Delta League Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

The St. Francis golf team placed fourth-place finish at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters tournament after advancing from the SJS Division 1 North Tournament with a fourth-place finish.

The team qualified for the postseason by winning the Delta League title for the second consecutive season, posting an undefeated dual and center match record.

Golfer Selected for Second First Tee Event

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Rising junior Olivia Alcoran has been selected by The First Tee for another Golf and Leadership event this year.  She is one of 96 junior golfers selected nationwide by The First Tee to participate in the 2017 The First Tee Life Skills & Leadership Academy that will take place in East Lansing, MI from July 26 – August 1, 2017.

Golfer Alcoran Selected for First Tee Event in Atlanta

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Olivia Alcoran has been selected one of 24 girls nationwide by The First Tee to participate in the 2017 John Deere Drive Your Future Academy in Atlanta, GA on June 19-22.

She’ll have a chance to win a $5,000 scholarship plus the opportunity to be a VIP guest and pro-am participant at the John Deere Classic in July 2017. The event will take place at East Lake GC, the site of the TOUR Championship and final event of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup series.

Jones Named Delta League Girls Golf Coach of the Year

SACRAMENTO, Calif – St. Francis Head Coach Bert Jones was named the Delta League Coach of the Year.

Jones, who was in his first season in the position, led the St. Francis golf team to a tie for seventh finish at the 2016 NCGA/CIF NorCal Championship at The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch. It was the first NorCal appearance for the program since 2013.

St. Francis Finishes Tied for Seventh at NorCals

SALINAS, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team finished tied for seventh at the 2016 NCGA/CIF NorCal Championship Monday at The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch. It was the first NorCal appearance since 2013.

“I am proud of us making it this far and we did really well this season,” said sophomore Patricia Sweeney.

St. Francis shot a 425 team score to tie with Alameda. Saint Francis Mountainview was the overall team leader at 382 with Dougherty Valley at 387 and Carondelet at 388. All three advanced to the CIF State Championships next week.

Golf Advances to CIF NorCals with Third-Place Masters Finish

STOCKTON, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team qualified for the CIF NorCal Regional Championships with a third-place finish at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters tournament on Monday at the Reserve at Spanos Park. The NorCals will be held at the The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch in Salinas on Monday, November 7.

“I know the whole team is super excited,” said junior captain Chase Saca. “We have worked really hard and this was ultimately our goal for the season. It was great.”

Saca tied for the low score of the day for the Troubadours with an eight-over par 80, shooting 39-41.

Sweeney Leads Golf into Masters Tournament

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Sophomore Patricia Sweeney shot a personal-best two-over par 74 to lead the St. Francis golf team into the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Monday at Timber Creek CC.

Sweeney’s 74 tied for third overall one stroke off the low round of the day set by Perry of Oak Ridge and Rachani of Granite Bay. It was her low round of her prep career, improving on an 81 shot in the Delta League Center match.

St. Francis shot 432 to advance to the Masters tournament along with Granite Bay (389) and Oak Ridge (408).

Golf Clinches Delta League Title with One-Stroke Center Victory

DAVIS, Calif. – Head Golf Coach Bert Jones has preached every stroke matters since he took over the program in August. The Troubadours made their coaches’ mantra prove prophetic Monday, clinching the Delta League title with a one-stroke win in the third and final Center match Monday at El Macero CC.
