SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis soccer team sent out their seniors with a 6-0 win over Monterey Trail Thursday in the final regular season tune-up for the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.

“I am very pleased,” said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “We came out and were professional. My concern was focus. Senior Day is always an emotional, heart-felt event. For us to be able to share in that and tuck a few away early on changes the game.”

The Troubadours got goals from five different players including Janae DeFazio, Grace Barger, Elise Urkov, Anna Huber and Lindsey Porter.

“We have to fine tune,” said Robinson. “We have big games coming up. It was a good team effort. We had a variety of goals from a variety of people.”

DeFazio scored in the eighth minute off an assist by Abby Padilla and then Barger and Elise Urkov connected on back-to-back goals off assists from senior Ari Avila and junior Allie Cloninger.

“It felt really good to contribute,” said Avila, who had two assists in the game. “I love assisting and helping people score.”

Avila added her second assist in the 19th minute on a goal by junior Anna Huber. SF got their fifth of the half off a Mustang own goal that was directed off the foot by Barger. Sophomore Linsey Porter added a sixth goal in the second half.

The players were recognized pre-game along with the 10 Monterey Trail seniors.

“It meant a lot that everyone recognized us,” said Avila. “We really came together as a team. It shows how much we connect and our sisterhood.”

Overall, St. Francis has seven seniors on the 2016-17 roster, including Avila, Dabry Carrillo, Kaitlyn Hendrickson, Abby Padilla, Alyssa Shebert, Savannah Tijerino-Santos and Wong.

“Each senior class is special in their own way and leave their foot print,” said Robinson. “We have a really good group that is very interested in representing St. Francis and perpetuating the culture we value.”

St. Francis (14-4-4) finished second in the Delta League and awaits its Sac-Joaquin Section playoff placement on Friday.

“I had a lot of fun today,” said Wong. “I was super pumped up. Knowing I had my friends from school came to support me and hearing them yelling to support me was really special. They made it really fun for me.

Playoff brackets will be announced at 4 p.m. on Friday.
