Golf Advances to Section Master’s with Fourth-Place Finish
FAIR OAKS, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section Master’s with a fourth-place finish at the Division I North tournament Monday at North Ridge Country Club.
The Troubadours posted a 455 team score led by junior Kate Swanson, edging Rocklin (463) and Pleasant Grove (470). Oak Ridge won the team title by five strokes over Davis (426) and Granite Bay (446). The top four teams and six individuals will play in the Master’s event on Monday at The Reserve as Spanos Park in Stockton.
“If anything we got this out of our system and if we keep practicing, next week can be even better,” said Swanson, who was the low Troubadour with a round of 86 to place 15th overall.
“I started out really well,” said Swanson. “I was not driving it really well but I got up and down quite a bit. That was my positive for the round.”
Junior Mikia Fang posted a round of 89 to rank second on the team and place 20th overall in the field.
“We are really surprised,” said Fang, who chipped in for a birdie on the fourth hole. “We all had a bad day but we still came through. It is great that we moving on. We just need to focus on our weaknesses and strategize more for where to play for The Reserve.”
Junior Kristi Lee and freshman Chase Saca tied for 21st overall with a round of 90. Senior Victoria Ramirez and freshman Lauren Allen each carded a score of 100.
The Master’s round starts at 8:30 a.m. with a shot gun start. St. Francis has won the Master’s event six times in school history.
