Golf Posts Season Best as Swanson Shoots Even Par
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Kate Swanson shot an even par round of 36 to lead St. Francis to a 204-223 win over Franklin Monday at Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course.
“It hit a lot of greens, I drove it really well and I did not miss many fairways,” said Swanson of her career-best 36. “It was really solid overall. It feels really good. I have never shot (even par) for nine holes.”
Swanson opened the round with a bogey on the first hole and but got back to even with a birdie on 4th. She closed with five straight pars.
“We are progressing,” said Swanson. “The team has a lot of momentum behind it.”
Junior Kristi Lee was the second-best finisher for the Troubadours with a four-over par 40.
“Today overall went really well,” said Lee. “It started off a little rough but I came back towards the end of the round so it was really good.”
Lee’s round included a birdie on the sixth that highlighted a strong finish with three straight pars.
Junior Mikia Fang was fourth overall with five-over par 41. Senior Victoria Ramirez also shot 41, while freshman Lauren Allen carded a 46.
Freshmen Adrienne Graybill made her first varsity start, filling in at the last minute for a sick teammate. She was notified during the school day and had an impressive debut posting a 48.
“I think she did great especially for her first round,” said Lee of Graybill. “She did really not have much notice before playing.”
St. Francis plays twice next week starting with a dual on Monday against Monterey Trail at Haggin Oaks Arden Arcade at 3 p.m. The team will then compete in the second Delta League center meet at the Reserve in Stockton in a preview for the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters to be played on Nov. 3.
