SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Victoria Vardanega will play golf for Pomona-Pitzer next fall and attend Pomona College. She is one of 32 Troubadours to sign to play collegiate athletics with their schools next fall.

“My freshmen year I barely made the varsity team,” recalled Vardanega. “It really motivated me to try harder. Seeing all the great players and having them above me, I played more over the summer, took serious lessons and practiced more. To be able to be rewarded for my hard work and play collegiate golf is such a blessing.”

Vardanega, a four-year letter winner, helped the Troubadours to the Delta River League and Division I North section titles as a senior. She recorded an 83.3 stroke average over six full rounds with a 40.2 stroke average in dual matches. She carded a season-best 35 against Folsom and an 80 in the DI North section tournament.

“I really appreciate what my parents have invested and it showed me if you try hard you can get awarded,” said Vardanega. “It influenced my academics and was a good life lesson as well.”

She will play for Head Coach Bernard Walker and the Sagehen program. They compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in NCAA Division III.

“The program is very young but is already nationally ranked,” said Vardanega. “It is exciting to be part of a growing program. I am looking forward to being part of the team.”

Vardanega helped lead the Troubadours to a sixth-place state championship finish in 2012 and the team won six section tournament titles during her career.

St. Francis will honor the 14 spring signees at a ceremony at the school on Wednesday, April 30 at 8:30 a.m. in the CLC.
