SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Ariana Avila dribbled almost the full length of the field and placed the ball in the net to give St. Francis an early lead in a 4-0 victory over Monterey Trail. The game was the final regular season home game for the season including the 13 seniors.

“I am impressed with the quality of the student-athletes,” said Head Coach Marycliare Robinson. “St. Francis is gifted athletically across the board and there is an unseen expectation. But, I am impressed with everything the players juggle and do it while being a good student. Everyone is going somewhere. It is really impressive and fun to be part of it.”

The Troubadours got on the board with a goal by senior Hailey Barrett off an assist by Janae DaFazio. Senior Bridget Foy also scored off a pass by Meredith Cook and assisted classmate Aly Barr in completing the scoring.

“We got some goals early,”’ said Robinson. “We have a busy week so it was good to get everyone going and everyone can be fresh and rested. I was really pleased with the effort.”

St. Francis celebrated its 13 seniors in a pregame ceremony.

“I was a little nostalgic and sad but it was fun,” said senior Avery Spector. “My senior teammates are awesome. We have a lot of different personalities but we get along well.”

Monterey Trail was the first of three games this week for the team, including a continuation of a game at Franklin on Tuesday.

“We are definitely focusing on one game at a time,” said Spector. “We did not want to talk about Franklin until we got through today. We know we need to buckle down for tomorrow.”

The soccer program will be represented at schools across the country next fall, including players at Louisiana Lafayette, Master’s College, Occidental College, UC Santa Barbara and William Jessup. The senior class also been committed to Cal Poly, Kentucky, Knox College, Nevada, Oregon, San Diego State, Santa Clara and UCLA.
