St. Francis Golfer MacDonald Commits to Chico State
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis golfer Ileana MacDonald has verbally committed to play golf at Chico State next fall.
“I am so excited,” said MacDonald. “I was sold on Chico when I went to visit the campus. It is a beautiful school.”
MacDonald is one of 25 Troubadours who have made commitments or signed during the previous National Letter of Intent signing periods to continue their athletic careers next year at the collegiate level.
“I got a chance to play with the team for a few holes,” said MacDonald. “I really meshed perfectly with them and the coach.”
MacDonald will join St. Francis volleyball player Anna Baytosh in signing with the Wildcats
“We sit next to each other in Spanish,” said MacDonald. “We are all about the Wildcat Pride.”
She is also the second Troubadour golfer to sign to play next year in college, joining Emily Laskin, who will play for the U.S. Naval Academy.
MacDonald has been a four-year letter winner and starter for the Troubadours. She posted an 84.0 stroke average over six 18-hole rounds in 2013, while averaging 40 in five nine-hole matches. She shot a season-best 78 at the Sac-Joaquin Division I North tournament to help St. Francis win the event and advance.
“I have always wanted to play college golf,” said MacDonald. “It became real when I got the NLI papers.”
MacDonald was part of the school’s sixth-place state championship finish in 2012, as well as three Delta River League titles. She was named to the All-DRL team three times.
“Senior year was a good way to end my high school career,” said MacDonald. “I have been playing with Emily Laskin and Victoria Vardanega. As a team, we did pretty well and it was a good season.”
The third and final NLI Signing date is April 16. St. Francis will hold a celebration to recognize all the spring collegiate signees on April 30.
