Tennis Opens Delta League Play with Win
ELK GROVE, Calif. – St. Francis won the Delta League opener with a 9-0 sweep of Pleasant Grove on Thursday. St. Francis swept all six singles matches in straight sets and repeated the feat in doubles to record a perfect opening match.
St. Francis, the defending Delta League co-champions, were led by sophomore Myra Anwar at No. 1. She posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Cheuny Lo. Freshman Adithi Benush was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at No. 2. The Jackson sisters, Kiya and Kyla, won at No. 3 and 4, respectively. Senior Abby Benvenuti posted a win at No. 5. Annie Gianulias did not drop a game in winning at No. 6.
Sabrina Voeller and Samantha Sonntag paired at No. 1 doubles for a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Megan Kahn and Macy Wood won a tight first set 7-5 before closing 6-0. Stephanie Fong and Bianca Ariza were also winners at No. 3.
