Tennis Sweeps Cosumnes Oaks in First Delta League Meeting

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Myra Anwar led a 9-0 sweep over Cosumnes Oaks in the first meeting between the schools as Delta League members.

“It was the first our first meeting with Cosumnes Oaks so we did not know anything about them so we went out there and played our best games,” said Anwar.

Anwar posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Athena Wilson at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win.

“I felt really good about my match,” said Anwar. “It was nice to work on game and new formations. It was a good match overall.”

Tennis Serves 8-1 Victory over Elk Grove

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team posted an 8-1 victory over Elk Grove on Thursday, improving to 11-1 and 7-0 in league play.

St. Francis won all six singles matches, while losing just two games overall. Freshman Safaa Umar played at No. 4 singles, defeating Audrey Need of Elk Grove in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Senior Roya Pahlavan posted a straight set win at No. 5 and sophomore Rosmy Alengaden completed the sweep at No. 6.

Tennis Defeats Davis 6-3

DAVIS, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team posted a 6-3 road victory over Davis Tuesday afternoon, posting four singles and two doubles win. The victory improved the Troubadours to 10-1 on the season with a perfect 4-0 Delta League record.

Sophomore Alisha Anwar, junior Adithi Benush, junior Sam Sonntag and freshman Safaa Umar were straight set winners in singles. Juniors Biana Ariza and Peyton Spellacy won at No. 1 doubles and senior Roya Pahlavan and sophomore Rosmy Alengaden recorded a win at No. 2 doubles.

Tennis Sweeps Sheldon, Defeats Pleasant Grove to Move to 3-0

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team improved to 3-0 in Delta League play with a pair of wins this week over Sheldon and Pleasant Grove. The Troubadours have now won 34 consecutive Delta League matches dating back to 2015.

The Troubadours (9-1) swept Sheldon on Tuesday at Rio del Oro Racquet Club, dropping just three games in singles play. Sophomore Alisha Anwar was a straight set winner at No. 1 singles, while four players were 6-0, 6-0 winners including junior Adithi Benush (No. 2), junior Samantha Sonntag (No. 3) and junior Peyton Spellacy (No. 6).

Tennis Finishes Fifth at Golden State Tennis Classic

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team finished fifth in the Golden State Tennis Classic over the weekend with victories over Menlo-Atherton, Saint Francis and Piedmont in the tournament held at Stanford University.

“It was an unbelievable weekend and experience to be on the Stanford campus and playing on the stadium court,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector.

Tennis Opens League Play with Sweep

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The defending Delta League and Sac-Joaquin Section champion St. Francis tennis team opened league play with a 9-0 sweep over Franklin on Tuesday.

The Troubadours got straight set singles win by Myra Anwar, sophomore Alisha Anwar, junior Adithi Benush, sophomore Izzy Asker, junior Sam Sonntag and sophomore Alex Evans. Four of the six matches were won without dropping a game.

The Troubles had similar success in doubles, sweeping the three matches. Freshman Safaa Umar and senior Roya Pahlavan paired for a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 to lead the team.

Tennis Defeats Folsom, Granite Bay to Take NorCal Title

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team defeated Granite Bay Saturday 7-1 at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club to take the NorCal Tournament title. SF advanced to the finals with a 6-2 win over Folsom Saturday morning.

Sophomore Alisha Anwar posted two victories on the day, including a come-from-behind three-set win at No. 2 in the semifinalsover Ava Brown. Senior Myra Anwar was a straight-set winner in both of her matches and Adihi Benush tallied two victories at No. 3.

Tennis Opens NorCal Tournament with a 9-0 Win

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team opened the season with a 9-0 win over St. Mary’s on Friday. The Troubadours swept all six singles and three doubles matches in straight sets.

No. 1 Myra Anwar, No. 5 Sam Sonntag and No. 6 Alex Evans all won their matches, dropping just a single game in the two-set wins. Alisha Anwar was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 2 over Izzy Garcia, while Adithi Benush defeated Lauren Basso 6-1, 6-2. Izzy Asker posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Taylor Basso.

Spector Named Delta League Coach of the Year

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis tennis coach Kristi Spector was named the Delta League Coach of the Year. She led the Troubadours to the quarterfinals of the CIF/USTA Northern California Regional Tennis Championships and the Delta League championship.

The Troubadour tennis team also advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section finals before losing to Oak Ridge, finishing with an 18-3 record on the season and posting a perfect undefeated 12-0 mark in Delta League play. It was the second consecutive league title for the Troubadours and first NorCal appearance since 2011.

Tennis Falls in NorCals to Amador Valley

FOLSOM, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team’s season came to an end Friday in the quarterfinals of the CIF/USTA Northern California Regional Tennis Championships presented by Farmers with a 5-2 loss to third-seeded Amador Valley at the Broadstone Racquet Club.

“I am really proud of the girls for the way they played, not only today, but the entire season,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector. “This was truly a team all the way from No. 1 to No. 18 in terms of support each other and working together on and off the court. It has been a wonderful year with a lot of support.”

Tennis Opens Against Amador Valley in NorCals

FOLSOM, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team was awarded a No. 6 seed in the CIF/USTA Northern California Regional Tennis Championships presented by Farmers. The Troubadours will take on No. 3 seed Amador Valley (12-3) at 10 a.m. on Friday at Broadstone Racquet Club. The Dons were the North Coast Section runner-up.

The winner will advance to a 2 p.m. match against the winner of No. 2 St. Ignatius and No. 7 Red Bluff.

Tennis Advances to NorCals with Win over McClatchy

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Adithi Benush provided the clinching point in a 6-3 win over McClatchy Thursday at Rio del Oro racquet Club, earning the St. Francis tennis team a berth in the upcoming CIF State NorCal Championships.

“I am beyond proud of the team,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector. “We were tired and so was McClatchy. But, I told them before the matches started that I knew we were tired mentally and physically but we can do this. We had to dig down deep and when you think you can’t go any further, yes you can! That was my motto.”

Tennis Finishes Second in Section; Will Play for NorCal Berth

FOLSOM, Calif. – Oak Ridge defeated St. Francis 7-2 to win the Sac-Joaquin Section title and the automatic berth into the NorCal Tennis Championships next week at Broadstone Racquet Club.

“I am feeling really good but these girls are really tired,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector. “They have had some long matches. But I am really proud of the girls. Oak Ridge is the No. 1 team in the Sierra Foothill League and No. 1 seed in the playoff bracket. We had a couple matches that could have gone either way. Regardless, I hoping we can pull off the win and advance to NorCals.”

Tennis Advances to Section Finals

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – After three hours and 12 minutes, senior Annie Gianulias prevailed at No. 6 singles with a three-set win over Alora Jorgensen to clinch the match 5-4 for the St. Francis tennis team over Del Oro and earn the Troubadours a berth in the Sac-Joaquin Section finals on Wednesday.

“It feels, honestly, awesome,” said Gianulias. “It was a tough match to pull out. Assistant coach Todd Stanley told us these are the matches you will remember and they are one you have to fight for.”

Tennis Advances to Section Semis

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team won four three-set matches  to propel the Troubadours into the Sac-Joaquin Section semifinals with a 7-2 win over Rocklin Monday afternoon at the Rio del Oro Racquet Club.

St. Francis opened the match with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles by Marisa Fat and Annie Gianulias, respectively. In doubles, senior Abby Benvenuti and Sabrina Voeller gave SF the 3-2 lead with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 at the top spot. But the match was decided by four matches that went three sets, including two singles and two doubles.

Jackson Sisters Advance in Section Doubles

ROSEVILLE, Calif. –The third-seeded junior pair of Kiya and Kyla Jackson advanced to the semifinals of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I Doubles bracket. The sister duo defeated Emma Canepa and Nikkie Barajas of Lodi 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals after opening with a win over Nikki Patel and Sasha Ehrler of Modesto 6-1, 6-3.

They will face No. 2 seed Ashley and Ali Issac of Del Oro on Friday morning at 11 a.m.at the Johnson Ranch Racquet Club.

Tennis Opens Section Playoffs with 9-0 Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team opened the Sac-Joaquin Section with a 9-0 win over Vacaville. They will advance to the quarterfinals on Monday, Nov. 7 against the winner of Rocklin and Turlock.

“It was a great match for us,” said Spector. “All of our girls played great. Vacaville was a pleasure to play and they were the epitome of sportsmanship and kindness. They were gracious winning or losing.”

St. Francis won all nine matches without dropping a set, sweeping both the singles and doubles.

Jackson Sisters Win Delta League Doubles

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Juniors Kiya and Kyla Jackson defended their Delta League doubles title and will represent the league in the Sac-Joaquin Section Individual doubles tournament Nov. 3-4 at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club.

The Jackson sisters defeated Lauren Duan and Lyna Jiang of Davis 6-3, 5-4 before the Blue Devil pair had to retire in the second set of the final. To reach the final, they defeated teammates Macy Wood and Sabrina Voeller in the semifinals 6-0, 6-1 and Cameron Parra and Samantha Sonntag in the quarterfinals 6-1, 6-1 in posting a perfect 4-0 mark on the day.

Tennis Receives Bye, High Seed in Section Tennis Bracket

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – After posting an undefeated season in the Delta League, the St. Francis tennis team earned the league’s top seed and bye for the first round, the Sac-Joaquin Section office announced Friday.

“I am super proud of our team this year going undefeated,” said Spector. “We have always had great results in my tenure but have never gone undefeated in the league. It is a testament to the girls, the team, coaches and everything working together. The parents are also a huge part of our team. We are looking forward to seeing how far we can go in the playoffs.”
