SACRAMENTO, Calif. – After posting an undefeated season in the Delta League, the St. Francis tennis team earned the league’s top seed and bye for the first round, the Sac-Joaquin Section office announced Friday.

“I am super proud of our team this year going undefeated,” said Spector. “We have always had great results in my tenure but have never gone undefeated in the league. It is a testament to the girls, the team, coaches and everything working together. The parents are also a huge part of our team. We are looking forward to seeing how far we can go in the playoffs.”

St. Francis (14-1) will open play with a home match on Tuesday, Nov. 1 against the winner of the Oct. 31 match between Vacaville, the No. 2 seed out of the Modesto Empire League, and Franklin of Stockton, the No. 2 seed from the San Joaquin Athletic Association.

The Troubadours are in the half of the bracket with Central California Conference No. 1 Turlock, Sierra Foothill League No. 2 seed Del Oro and Delta League No. 3 Franklin of Elk Grove. All four schools received byes in the first round.

St. Francis posted a 14-1 overall record (12-0 in Delta) with the only loss coming 5-4 to Granite Bay in the Best of Sacramento Showcase in August. Oak Ridge, the top seed from the SFL, is atop the other half of the bracket. The two schools met in a preseason scrimmage.

Led by Head Coach Kristi Spector, St. Francis has won 13 straight matches entering the playoffs.  St. Francis advanced to the section semifinals last season and will be seeking its 10th section title in school history.

Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Rio del Oro Racquet Club. The winner advances to play on Monday, Nov. 7 in the quarterfinals. Semifinals are on Nov. 8 and finals on Nov. 9.

The Division I champion will be the No. 1 seed, representing the SJS in NorCal playoffs. The Division I runner-up will play at the Division II champion on Thursday, Nov. 10 to determine the Section’s No. 2 seed in the NorCal playoffs.
