Tennis Wins Seventh in a Row
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Annie Gianulias improved to 9-0 on the season to lead St. Francis to an 8-1 victory over Pleasant Grove Wednesday night.
“I stayed consistent and had a good attitude when I have been behind and not let that affect me,” said Gianulias, who has played at the No. 3, 4 and 5 positions. “I was able to move her around and strategize shots.”
Gianulias won without losing a game and posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Emily Le at No. 5 singles.
Sophomore Abby Benvenuti recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
“I played really well today,” said Benvenuti. “I kept my shots (on the court) in windy conditions and stayed really consistent.”
The Troubadours won their seventh consecutive match to improve to 8-2 on the season, including a 6-1 mark in Delta League play. St. Francis lost just six games in six singles matches.
“Last time we played Pleasant Grove, we were not as good of a team as we are now,” said Benvenuti.
Junior Avery Spector won at No. 1 singles, while sisters Kiya Jackson and Kyla Jackson had wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Freshman Marisa Fat posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles.
The Troubies won two of the three doubles matches. Junior Eden Elliott and junior Megan Khan combined for the win at No. 1 doubles with a 6-2, 7-6 win. Sophomore Sabrina Voeller and freshman Cameron Parra had a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3.
St. Francis hosts Davis on Monday at Rio del Oro Racquet Club in a matchup for first place in the league. Davis handed St. Francis its only league loss 6-3 on Sept. 10.
