Holy Court Ticket Sales Start Saturday, August 20

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Holy Court ticket sales to St. Francis students, parents, fans and alumna will open on Saturday, August 20 at 6 a.m. (Limit 2 per person). A passcode will be sent to your St. Francis student email account on Friday to access the tickets.

Holy Court will be played on Tuesday, August 30 at St. Francis starting with the freshman contest at 4:30 p.m. The junior varsity teams will play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 6:30 p.m.

Troubies Deliver St. Francis Volleyballs on Service Trip

SOUTH DAKOTA – Rising senior Jessica Gianulias organized the donation of St. Francis volleyballs while on a service trip this summer in South Dakota.

Gianulias traveled with seven current and former classmates with the Global-7 non-profit organization service trip to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. They worked with girls between 6-10 years old part of the Oglala Lakota Indian Tribe.

2016 St. Francis Spring Signing Day

Seven student-athletes have signed or committed to plays sports at collegiate programs across the nation in conjunction with the third NCAA National Signing Day. Overall, St. Francis has 25 student-athletes from the class of 2016 playing sports in college this fall.

Three Volleyball Players Earn Delta League Honors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Three St. Francis volleyball players earned Delta All-League honors in 2015 as voted by the league coaches. Senior Ashlynn Fresques joined juniors Kelsey Grover and Claire Schutz on the all-league team.

Fresques was second on the team in kills with a team-best 3.8 kills per set. She recorded double-digit kills in 12 of 16 matches played. She was also selected to play in the Optimist All-Star game.

Grover recorded a team-best 463 assists on the season, averaging 6.3 per set. She was third in the league in total assists.

Natalie Woodruff’s Make-A-Wish Moment

Natalie Woodruff’s Make-A-Wish Moment

St. Francis volleyball player Natalie Woodruff helped light the Tree during the Holiday Party at The Wishing Place on Dec. 10. Following the lighting, Natalie learned that her wish to go to New York at Christmastime would be coming true. Special thank you to Wells Fargo for generously sponsoring her wish and Make-A-Wish® Northeastern California & Northern Nevada. Have fun in New York Natalie!

Natalie has completed her treatments and is planning on returning to St. Francis in the spring.

Volleyball Season Ends in Section Quarters

GRANITE BAY, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball season ended Thursday night in a tough five-set match at No. 2 seed Granite Bay in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II quarterfinals. St. Francis, the No. 7 seed, finishes the season with a 20-16 record.

“I am very proud of the girls for their battle,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright, who completed her 27th season at the helm of the program. “They played with a tremendous amount of heart and played tonight as a team.

Fresques to Play Volleyball at Point Loma Nazarene

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior volleyball player Ashlynn Fresques has committed to play volleyball at Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego.

“I chose the school because I love the location in San Diego and when I visited I loved the team and the coaches,” said Fresques. “It is still really competitive but it is a fun Division II program.”

Fresques is in her first year at St. Francis after transferring from Christian Brothers. She has been a starter for the Troubadours since completing her mandatory sit-out period per the section transfer rules.

Volleyball Finishes Tied for Third at Super 8

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team finished tied for third at its Super 8 Invitational on Saturday after falling in the championship bracket semifinals to Campolindo 25-18, 25-21. The Troubadours won Pool 2 with a perfect 2-0 record, posting wins over Granite Bay and Branson earlier in the day.

Oak Ridge won the tournament with a 25-16, 25-19 victory over Campolindo. Granite Bay finished third with a win in the consolation bracket 25-13, 26-24 over Christian Brothers.

Homecoming for Two Montana State Bobcats

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – It was ironic that Homecoming activities have surrounded the St. Francis campus this week as two of the school’s alumnae returned home to play collegiate volleyball Thursday night less than a mile away at the Hornets Nest on the Sacramento State campus.

For Dana Vestman (Elk Grove) and Loni Kreun (Davis) of the Montana State volleyball team and the St. Francis Class of 2013, everything was familiar on Thursday as they drove down Elvas Avenue on the way to the their game, providing directions to their van drivers.

Volleyball Transfer Fresques A Welcome Addition

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team started wearing new Adidas uniforms this week that forced everyone, including Head Coach Alynn Wright, to become familiar with some new numbers. Wright has quickly learned the new No. 8 on the roster, a player who has led the team in kills this week.

That player is senior transfer Ashlynn Fresques, who has recorded a combined 26 kills in leading the Troubadours to a pair of wins this week, including a 25-6, 25-14, 25-12 win over Grant Thursday night.

Volleyball’s JJ Smith Getting Better Each Match

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team recorded a straight-set victory over Sheldon Tuesday night as freshman JJ Smith had a second consecutive impressive hitting night for the Troubadours.

“It was fun to see the kids do somethings they do not normally get to do in games,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “They got to share a lot of court time and that helps build team comradery. It was fun.”

One of the players having fun was Smith, who recorded seven kills while hitting over .200 for the second consecutive game.

JV Volleyball Reaches Chris Craft Semifinals

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – The St. Francis junior varsity volleyball team reached the semifinals of the Chris Craft before falling to host Oak Ridge in straight sets.

St. Francis, the defending champion in the event, went 3-0 in pool play with wins over Folsom, Lodi and Bella Vista. The Troubies were tested against Bella Vista after losing the first set before winning the final two sets. They advanced to the semifinals with a win over Vacaville before falling to Oak Ridge.

Volleyball Program to Host Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Awareness Night
Troubadour Players and Coaches will conduct pre-game prayer for Natalie Woodruff

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball program will have a Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Awareness Night on Tuesday, Sept. 22 in support of Troubadour Natalie Woodruff and her fight against the disease. She was diagnosed in May and began receiving treatment in July. The event will take place prior to the varsity game against Davis High School.

Alumna Bisharat Earns Player of the Week Honor

COOLIDGE, Ariz. – Congrats to Larson Bisharat, a middle blocker from Central Arizona, who was named the  ACCAC D1 Player of the Week. CAC went 4-1 led by Bisharat who totaled 48 kills and 8 blocks in the five contests and she was named to the Roughrider Invitational All-Tournament team.

Volleyball Defeats El Camino

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis varsity volleyball team defeated El Camino in three sets 25-17, 25-14, 25-17 in the final prep for Delta League play Tuesday night.

“It felt amazing and was a really fun experience,” said junior Jessica Gianulias. “We were all really happy on the court and had a good time playing.”

St. Francis (6-7) starts Delta League play on Thursday against Pleasant Grove.

“We are excited and ready,” said Gianulias.

Head Coach Alynn Wright said the team had a good team effort and got contributions from across the roster.

Holy Court Decided in Five Sets

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team battled five sets before falling to Christian Brothers in front of a sold out crowd Thursday in the annual Holy Court matchup between the schools.

“This is the hardest we have ever fought,” said sophomore Aiyu Aimufua. “If anything it makes us want to work even harder. We brought our all today and I think there are only better things to come for us.”

St. Francis won the opening set 25-15 and briefly quieted the home crowd for the Falcons. But Christian Brothers won the second set 25-15 to equal the match at 1.
