2018 National Merit Semi-Finalist Announced

In early September, about 16,000 students in the United States, or approximately one-third of the 50,000 high school students, are notified that they have qualified as Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

We are proud to announce that St. Francis senior, Catherine Sutarjo, received a National Merit Semi-Finalist award for her outstanding academic performance on the PSAT/NMSQT. Approximately 15,000 finalists for the Merit Scholarship Program will be announced in February. If she advances to a Finalist standing, she will be considered for a National Merit Scholarship. We wish her the best of luck in her endeavors!

Alert to SFHS Families

It has been reported by St. Mary School that some suspicious men have been seen in cars parked or driving along M Street, watching St. Francis girls walk to St. Mary’s.  If your daughter is one who may be walking along M Street to meet with you or a sibling at St. Mary’s, we want to make you aware of this happening.

The Police Department has been notified and both schools are working together to do what we can to make this area safer for your daughters. For the time being, we are recommending the girls wait for another student/s to walk down together to St. Mary’s or remain at St. Francis until they can be picked up by a parent.  Please remind your daughter/s not to walk alone and to be aware of her surroundings.

MacKenzie Campbell ‘14

MacKenzie Campbell ’14 graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Advertising and Public Relations with minors in English and Communications. She worked at Hudl (a sports software company) as an intern her senior year of college and she used her lacrosse knowledge from playing four years at St. Francis to help develop their lacrosse marketing. After graduation she transitioned to a full-time role at Hudl as a Project Manager for the Marketing Technology team. #TroubieForLife

Meredith Ray ‘14

Meredith Ray ‘14 graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Santa Clara University in Communication and Spanish. She is headed to Seattle in August for a full time job with the Seattle Seahawks in their Digital Media department. #TroubieForLife

Kayla Morrow ‘15

Kayla Morrow ‘15 is currently studying Strategic Communication with a double emphasis in Public Relations and Advertising at Northern Arizona University. This summer she will be attending Regionals and Nationals with her Flagstaff baton team where she will compete in solo and team events. The medals she is wearing are from placing in her solo routines at a competition in April. She has been twirling since she was 7 and her teacher was Danielle Muller ’00. Kayla’s sister, current Troubie Olivia ‘20 is also a twirling student of Mrs. Muller.

Olivia Nice ‘10 Performs in “Once”

St. Francis Performing Arts Department chair Cheryl Watson traveled to Ashland, Oregon and had the pleasure of watching alumna Olivia Nice ‘10 perform in Once at the Oregon Cabaret Theatre. The musical is not only an audience favorite but received glowing reviews throughout the region. Congratulations Olivia we are so proud of you!

Miroslava Zaragoza ‘21 Recognized at MVP Academy

Alumnae Miranda Myers and Lauren LaRocco Make Hometown Returns
LaRocco Qualifies for NCAA Championships in the 10,000 Meters

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The public address announcer at Hornet Stadium recognized the hometown returns of St. Francis alumnae Miranda Myers ’15 and Lauren LaRocco ’14 before reach raced for their respective schools at the NCAA Track and Field West Preliminary Saturday night at Hornet Stadium.

“It definitely helped hearing I was a local athlete and made me feel at home,” said Myers, a junior at Northern Arizona. “It brought back memories when I was in high school and I had everyone here supporting me. It was really nice.”

Wilson Finishes 13th at CIF State Diving Championships

CLOVIS, Calif. – Senior Molly Wilson finished 13th at the CIF State Diving Championships on Saturday. It was her third consecutive appearance at the meet.

Wilson finished second at the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships, earning her berth in the field. Wilson was 10th at the state meet in 20017 and 16th in 2016.

She will dive for Cal Poly next fall.

2018 Lacrosse Highlights

  • St. Francis went 11-6 on the season under Head Coach Julia Southard, advancing to the North Coast Section playoffs. SF was defeated by 17-6 in the first round by Oak Ridge.
  • The Troubadours lost to Oak Ridge in the semifinals of the Sacramento Valley Lacrosse League playoffs after finishing in fourth in the league standings.

Swimming Takes Frosh/Soph Section Title, Fourth in Varsity Meet

LODI, Calif. – The St. Francis swimming and diving team won the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I Frosh/Soph title and finished fourth overall in the varsity meet, completing a successful two days at Tokay High School.

“It is a fulfillment of all the hard work, early mornings, countless yardage and an overall whole team effort,” said Head Coach Richard Levin.

St. Francis won the Frosh/Soph title for the second consecutive season, taking the Division I title in the new format that divided the meet into three different divisions.

18 Troubadours Earn SportsStars Magazine All-City Honors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis athletic department had 18 student-athletes recognized on the SportStars™ Magazine All-City team presented by the Sacramento River Cats prior to Sunday’s River Cats game at Raley Field.

St. Francis had the second-best total in the section, trailing only Davis (21), and one of four schools with more than 10 honors including Oak Ridge (13) and Granite Bay (10) on the girl’s teams.

Swimming Sets Stage with Section Trials Performances

LODI, Calif. – Senior Emily Bartylla accomplished what every athlete hopes for in their final performance, swimming a personal-best in her signature event.

“She did a 1:10 as a freshman and she had not broken it since in high school,” said Head Coach Richard Levin. “To do that in her final swim, we both shared a tear together. It was a great way to send her off.”

Softball Clinches Section Playoff Berth

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis softball team won their last two Delta League games highlighted by a 10-0 win over Monterey Trail Tuesday in the Senior Game to clinch a Sac-Joaquin Section playoff berth.

“We are extremely happy,” said Head Coach Kevin Warren. “Our backs were against the wall. They came back in yesterday’s game against Franklin and hit the heck out of the ball.”

Lacrosse Battles Oak Ridge Tough in NCS Playoffs

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – The Oak Ridge lacrosse team, the No. 2 seed in the North Coast Section playoffs and ninth-ranked team in the nation, defeated St. Francis 17-6 in a first-round game Tuesday night.

“Today we showed what type of team we were and we can compete at this level,” said senior Juliette Vielhauer.

The Troubadours opened a 4-1 lead on the Trojans, who had eliminated the team from the Sacramento Valley Lacrosse league playoffs last week.

Junior Varsity Lacrosse Selects Team Awards

RANCHO MURIETA, Calif. – The St. Francis junior varsity team celebrated their record-breaking season with their awards dinner on May 6. The team finished with an 11-3 overall mark, the most wins by the JV program in school history. The team finished the season with an 8-6 win over Davis, a team that defeated St. Francis 15-4 earlier in the season.

Track and Field Second Entering Delta League Finals

Elk Grove, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field team was led by pole vault champion Meghan Ladd in scoring 18 points Friday in the opening day of the Delta League Championships. The Troubadours scored 18 points on the night in three finals and advanced 18 student-athletes in the trials to next week’s finals.

Ladd won the pole vault with a clearance at 10-11 and the Troubadours received a fourth-place finish by Isabelle Rudis in the triple jump (34-9.25) and sixth-place by Sarah Healey in the shot put (29-7) in finals contested Friday.

Senior Molly Wilson Finishes Second at Sections

Updated Results: After an error was discovered in the calculation of the results, Wilson was determined to be in second place to Melia Stout (447.95-445.60).

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Molly Wilson won her third straight Sac-Joaquin Section diving title on Friday with an 11-dive total of 415.60 and will advance to the CIF State Diving Championships.

Lacrosse Loses to Oak Ridge in SVL Semifinals

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – Junior Jade Borg and freshman Maggie Price each had two goals but St. Francis lost in the semifinals of the Sacramento Valley Lacrosse League playoffs 12-6 to top seed Oak Ridge on Tuesday night.

“I coached a team that believed they could win the game,” said Head Coach Julia Southard. “They were an inspired group led by our seniors. It was a fun game to watch and be part of. Our kids truly feel they can compete with any team in our league.”

Athletics to Host Annual Sports Physical Night on June 6

St. Francis will be hosting Sports Physical Night for the 2018-19 school year on June 6 with registration starting at 5 p.m. The cost of the physical is $25 per student.

Swimming & Diving Finishes Second at League Meet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis swimming and diving team finished second overall to Davis at the 2018 Della League Championships. The Blue Devils out-scored the Troubies 615-504 at American River College. Overall, the team placed 18 swimmers in ‘A’ Finals and recorded eight top-three finishes in the meet including relays.
