Track and Field’s Ladd Breaks School Record, Palchak Wins Fifth High Jump

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Meghan Ladd set a St. Francis school record Friday night at the Bronco Distance Carnival with a 12-0 clearance in the pole vault, breaking a 16-year old record. She broke the mark held by alumnae Laura Huarte (11-9, 2002) and equaled by Ingrid Kantola (11-9, 2004).

In other action at the Bella Vista meet, sophomore Haley Silva placed fourth in the 800 meters with a personal-best 2:19.96. She also placed fifth in the 3200.

Freshman Sage Davis Leads Victory over Grant

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Sage Davis went 3-for-3 with two home runs and seven runs batted in to lead St. Francis to a 12-2 win over Grant in the Delta League opener.

“It feels good and exciting after starting 0-for-5 last weekend,” said Davis. “It felt good to get back in the routine of things.”

St. Francis Catholic High School invites 7th and 8th Grade students to participate in this exciting, half-day Model United Nations conference led by the SFHS MUN team!

Basketball Head Coach, Vic Pitton, Retires

St. Francis Head Basketball Coach, Vic Pitton, has decided to retire from coaching the Troubadour varsity team and teaching at the school. He will be moving to Mississippi with his wife, Susan, at the completion of the academic year to be near his daughter and their two grandsons.

Senior Maggie Pinkston to Play Lacrosse at Benedictine University

Senior Goalie to Sign with Benedictine on April 11

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior goalie Maggie Pinkston will play at Division III Benedictine University outside Chicago next fall.

“I am excited to play in college because of the team,” said Pinkston. “It was a different environment. They are there because they want to be and love lacrosse. It made me super excited to go there.”

Track and Field Dominates Field Events at Husky

ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field team had three event winners at the Husky Invitational on Saturday.

Sophomore Meghan Ladd cleared a personal-best 11-6 to win the pole vaulty, tied for the second-best mark in school history and three inches off the school record. Sophomore Isabella Palchak cleared 5-3 in the high jump for a new personal best mark to win her event, while Isabelle Grassel leaped 17-2 to win the long jump ahead of third-pace finisher Isabelle Rudis with a personal-best 16-7. Rudis was also third in the high jump and triple jump.

Rescue & Jessica Book Tour – Sacramento, CA

Jessica Kensky ‘99 and her husband Patrick Downes were among those injured in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, Jessica is a double amputee and her husband lost his left leg. Their life now includes a black labrador service dog named Rescue. Jessica and Patrick have authored a children’s book about an 11-year-old girl named Jessica adjusting life with prostheses, wheelchairs and crutches with her service dog by her side.

Senior Arts Recognition Ceremony (Thursday, 5/3)

You are invited to attend this ceremony which acknowledges the senior students who have committed to majoring in an art form at their college of choice. This event is on the St. Francis Stage at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3rd. The seniors will be wearing their university or college shirt. They will be telling us about their arts experience thus far and where they want to go with it. This honoring event is free.

Important Safety Information

You may have already seen the TV news, social media, or read about it in the paper. Yesterday afternoon, a man wielding a knife in the area of 63rd and Elvas Avenue was arrested by Sacramento Police Department. This person was also later involved in another incident in the area of Mercy Hospital and Sacred Heart School.   We want to be very clear, no SFHS students or adults were involved, this message is strictly a safety message.  While these events are very rare in our area, it does remind us to always look at our personal safety, no matter where we are.

Arts Alumna Update: Natasha Soto-Albors ‘02

We love hearing from Alumnae! After graduating from SFHS Natasha Soto-Albors ‘02 made the journey east to study at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Since receiving her B.F.A. in Drama, Natasha has built a career as an actor, screenwriter, and film producer. She is the founder and CEO of Night Spark Pictures, an NYC production company dedicated to diverse and dynamic storytelling.

Solos & Ensembles Recitals 2017

The Solo and Ensemble Recital on December 11th was a resounding success. Over 20 vocalists and instrumentalists performed beautiful songs for over 80 family members and friends.

We we would also like to acknowledge & thank Mrs. Tina Harris, Vocal Instructor, Mr. Gerald Rheault, our piano accompanist, and 
Todd Weber, Guitarist for their support and accompanying the students at solo and ensemble!

Congrats to Delaney Feener ’14

Congratulations to Delaney Feener’14 who is appearing as Cinderella in INTO THE WOODS at DePaul University. 

In 2013 Delaney won an Elly for her portrayal of The Witch in The SF Theatre production of Sondheim’s musical.

Four Golfers Earn All-Delta League Distinction

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Four St. Francis golfers were named to the All-Delta League for their overall performance in league dual and center matches over the course of the season. Players accrue points based on their individual finishes in each event with a Most Valuable Player and top 10 players honored.

The Class of 1967, who was the first class to fully attend the M St. location all four years celebrated their 50th Reunion in style at the California Auto Museum with Christian Brothers on October 14, 2017.

Kim Johnson-Marble ‘08 Inspired to Join Military After 9/11

Kim Johnson-Marble ‘08 was interviewed by ABC 10’s France Wang ’10 on why she was inspired to join military after 9/11. 

“I wanted to be a part of giving back, showing how strong we are as a country,” Johnson-Marble said. “I told my parents ‘I’m going to be in the army.’

Johnson-Marble said when she was giving her oath, she had that same gut feeling again in her stomach that she had during 9/11.

Greta Gerwig ‘02

Greta Gerwig graduated from St. Francis Catholic High School in 2002. While at SF, Greta was part of the Dance program, Chamber Choir and numerous theatre productions. She played in SF’s shows “Into the Woods,” “The Boy Friend,” “Pippin,” and “The Apple Tree,” as well as Lenaea Festival showings with SF for “Antigone,” “Final Dress Rehearsal” and “Ladies of the Tower,” for which she was a Lenaea medalist.
