Golf Wins Delta League Opener over Elk Grove

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Haanya Niazi shot a two-over par 38 to tie for medalist honors and help St. Francis post a 198 team score against Elk Grove in the Delta League opener for both teams at Haggin Oaks.

Niazi, who shot an even-par 36 in the qualifier, bogeyed the first, third and fourth holes and posted a birdie on the eighth along with four pars to record a competitive personal-best 38 in her first competitive prep round. She shot a 47 in her only action as a freshman.

Tennis Defeats Folsom, Granite Bay to Take NorCal Title

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team defeated Granite Bay Saturday 7-1 at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club to take the NorCal Tournament title. SF advanced to the finals with a 6-2 win over Folsom Saturday morning.

Sophomore Alisha Anwar posted two victories on the day, including a come-from-behind three-set win at No. 2 in the semifinalsover Ava Brown. Senior Myra Anwar was a straight-set winner in both of her matches and Adihi Benush tallied two victories at No. 3.

Tennis Opens NorCal Tournament with a 9-0 Win

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team opened the season with a 9-0 win over St. Mary’s on Friday. The Troubadours swept all six singles and three doubles matches in straight sets.

No. 1 Myra Anwar, No. 5 Sam Sonntag and No. 6 Alex Evans all won their matches, dropping just a single game in the two-set wins. Alisha Anwar was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 2 over Izzy Garcia, while Adithi Benush defeated Lauren Basso 6-1, 6-2. Izzy Asker posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Taylor Basso.

Golfer Patricia Sweeney Named Triple-Impact Finalist

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior golfer Patricia Sweeney has been named a Positive Coaching Alliance Triple Impact Competitor Award Finalists.  This award recognizes student athletes that embody the PCA principles of ”Making oneself Better, Making Teammates Better, and Making their Community Better”

Congratulations to the below listed finalists (listed by Chapter) who embody the Triple-Impact Competitor® model of making themselves, their team and their sport better by their behavior in and out of sport. The winner’s will be named later in the school year.

Alumna Carpenter Named NISCA/Speedo Girls Water Polo All-American

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Alumna Kobe Carpenter ’18 has been named to the 2017-18 NISCA/ Speedo Girls Water Polo All-America team announced this week.

Carpenter was named to the Sac-Joaquin Section first team. She ranked fourth on the team in goals with 25 and recorded 46 points on the season. Sophomores Caroline Wilkins and Kendall Houck were second-team selections. Houck led the team in the goals with 44 and totaled a team-best 82 points. Wilsons was second on the team with 37 goals and 63 points.

Golfer Olivia Alcoran Selected to Play in 2018 PURE Insurance Championship

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis rising senior Olivia Alcoran has been selected to participate in the 2018 PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee tournament at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach from Sept. 25 – Sept. 30, 2018.

Soccer’s Porter and Berry Earn United Soccer Coaches All-Region Honors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Rising senior Lindsey Porter and rising junior Marli Berry were named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches All-West Region team announced this week.

Porter, who has committed to UC-Santa Barbara, led the team in scoring as a junior. She totaled a team-best nine goals and eight assists with 26 points. She was named to the Delta League first team while ranking sixth in goals and fourth in assists and was named the team’s Offensive MVP and Golden Boot winner.

St. Francis Wins First Delta League All-Sports Title

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis Athletics department won the 2017-18 Delta League All-Sports title for the first time in the three-year history of the award. The Troubadours won or tied for five league titles during the year and recorded two second-place finishes.

Alumna Rachel Huber ’18 to Play Soccer at William Jessup

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Alumna Rachel Huber ’18 recently committed to play soccer at William Jessup University in Rocklin this fall. She will play for Head Coach Constantini and join former teammate Aly Barr on the Warriors roster. Huber was a two-year letter winner for the Troubadours over the last two seasons.

Recent Grad Ariana Miggins to play Water Polo at American River College

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Recent St. Francis graduate Ari Miggins will continue her water polo career at American River College this fall.

“They have a really strong team and I like the training schedule,” said Miggins. “(Head Coach) Bethani (Black) has a similar coaching style to St Francis Head Coach Heather Moody so I know I can fit in easily.”

Miggins played in 21 games as a senior, making 148 saves while allowing just 69 goals.

Alumna Allison Child Joins Volleyball Staff

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Alumna Allison Child ’13 will begin her first season on the St. Francis volleyball staff in 2018, serving as the head coach of the freshman team.

“Being back at St. Francis is such a blessing and I am excited to be here to serve the community that gave me so much,” said Child. “I loved being a part of this volleyball program as a player, and I can’t wait to experience it as a coach, alongside an amazing and supportive staff. Overall, it’s truly an amazing opportunity to be back in the SF gym and I am looking forward to this season!”

Where Are They Now? Ashley Kyalwazi ‘14

Alumna Ashley Kyalwazi ’14, who was the Student Body President her senior year, continues to be a shining example and representative of St. Francis High School. She recently stopped by the campus in between her graduation from the University of Notre Dame and enrollment in Harvard Medical School this fall.

“I had a great time as an undergraduate at Notre Dame,” said Kyalwazi. “Over the course of four years, I was blessed to meet amazing people from professors to my peers. I will miss my time at ND, but I am looking forward to beginning my medical school journey.”

St. Francis Golf Coach Bert Jones Named Top 100 Instructor

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – On the eve of Father’s Day, St. Francis golf coach Bert Jones remembers a piece of advice his father once told him “that you should always leave the game a little bit better than you found it”.

He lives daily by those words and they are a major reason why has been selected one of the Top 100 Instructors for 2019-20 by the World Teachers Golf Federation. The list will be published in the upcoming June 2018 issue of Teaching Pro Magazine.

Updated St. Francis High School Volleyball Tryout Information (SF Main Gym)

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Volleyball Tryouts are open to all SFHS students (Students must have a current 2018-2019 St. Francis High School Physical Form on file with the Athletic Director in order to participate.)

All Freshmen are to wear a solid white t-shirt with their first name on the front and their last name on the back, each day during tryouts.  A sharpie can be used to write your name on the t-shirts. For more information, contact Head Coach Alynn Wright at awright@stfrancishs.org.

Golfer Olivia Alcoran Chosen for First Tee Leadership Academy

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Rising St. Francis senior Olivia Alcoran was selected by The First Tee of Greater Sacramento (TFTGS) to represent the chapter at the 2018 The First Tee Northern California Leadership Academy. The event’s activities will be held at locations in the Monterey, CA and Pebble Beach area from June 17-20, 2018.

The event is comprised of 60 young people from The First Tee and Youth on Course Northern California network who are committed to The First Tee’s Nine Core Values.

Basketball Programs Travel to Chico State This Weekend

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis basketball program will travel to Chico on Friday for a three-day tournament at Chico State University for all three programs. Here is a breakdown of the game for the Troubadours. New head coach Heather Brownholtz will lead the varsity program, Junior Varsity head coach Gary Ender will lead his team and new Freshman Head Coach Brian Montes will lead the new Troubies from the Class of 2022.
