Softball Earns Section Playoff Bid

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis varsity softball team will play Del Oro in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division ii playoffs, the section office announced on Thursday. Game time is 4 p.m.

St. Francis, the No. 13 seed, will travel to fourth-seeded Del Oro. The winner will take on the winner of No. 5 Roseville and No. 12 Vacaville on Thursday. Teams will then play a double-elimination tournament at Arnaiz Complex in Stockton.

Swimming Showcases Youth at Sections

LODI, Calif. – With a roster dominated with youthful standouts, the St. Francis swimming team competed at the Sac-Joaquin Section Trials on Thursday looking to make history and give a glimpse of a strong future.

“I could not be prouder of my whole team,” said Head Coach Richard Levin. “How exciting for the Frosh/Soph group and how exciting is it to be coaching them the next three years. Seeing them in action today when it matters, they all stepped up. The group includes a lot of talented freshmen and Hannah Parulan, a sophomore, who is definitely the leader.”

Senior Swimmer Fugit Returns to Pool at Section Trials

LODI, Calif. – Senior Elizabeth Fugit had everything going right for her. She was accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy and was having the senior season at St. Francis she had hoped for. She had worked hard to post the times in the pool that aligned with her senior goals with a strong showing at the section meet in her future. Then everything changed.

Within hours she was in the hospital having her appendix out. Time in the pool was done and time spent with her friends on the swimming team was over. With league championships ahead, she was out and watching from the pool deck.

Softball Wins Key League Game on Senior Night

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Chloe Smith went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI with a double and home run to pace St. Francis to an 11-7 win versus Franklin Monday.

“I was thinking line drive to get something going,” said Smith. “We were making contact with the ball but we were hitting right at people.”

Smith’s third inning home run gave St. Francis a 2-1 lead and sparked a five-run inning to take control of the game.

Track and Field Advances 10 from Trials

DAVIS, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field team set the stage for an exciting final next week with strong performances in the Delta League Trials Friday at Davis High School. The Troubies qualified nine athletes in 13 events and scored 11 points in the first three event finals.

Wilson Repeats as Section Diving Champion

MODESTO, Calif. – Junior Molly Wilson defended her Sac-Joaquin Section diving title on Saturday at Johansen High School to earn a berth in the CIF State Diving Championships.

“I worked really hard this season,” said Wilson. “It feels good to win. I could have done better and I was starting to get a little down on myself. But with my last two dives I let it go and had fun with it.”

Diver Molly Wilson Wins Section North Trials

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Molly Wilson won the Sac-Joaquin Section North Diving Trials on Thursday with a personal-best and High School All-America qualifying score of 458.40, advancing to Saturday’s finals with berths to the state championships on the line.

“It feels good (to win this meet),” said Wilson. “I have worked really hard throughout the diving season. I am glad my hard work is paying off.”

Lacrosse competes in the Sacramento Valley Lacrosse league playoffs. Softball will play three regular season road games. Swimming is off in prep for the section championships and track and field will compete in the first leg of the championship season with the Delta League Trials at Davis on May 5. Swimming Finishes Second at Delta League Champs

CARMICHAEL, Calif. – The St. Francis swimming and diving team finished second overall behind four second and three third-place finishes on the final day of the Delta League Championships at Jesuit High School.

St. Francis was in a battle with Davis all meet. After entering with a lead thanks to the sweep by diving and the Delta League title by Molly Wilson, the Troubadours led after the first day that featured three relay finals and challenged all meet against the Blue Devils, who finally out-scored the St. Francis 506.5 to 477.5.

Swimming and Diving Leads After First Day

CARMICHAEL, Calif. – Behind a strong diving performance on Wednesday and three second-place relay finishes, the St. Francis swimming and diving leads after the first day of the Delta League championships. St. Francis leads 65.5 to 41.5 over Davis.

“We setup some second swims,” said Head coach Richard Levin. “The more we can get in the big final, the better. The diving cushion was a big help today.”

Golfer Alcoran Selected for First Tee Event in Atlanta

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Olivia Alcoran has been selected one of 24 girls nationwide by The First Tee to participate in the 2017 John Deere Drive Your Future Academy in Atlanta, GA on June 19-22.

She’ll have a chance to win a $5,000 scholarship plus the opportunity to be a VIP guest and pro-am participant at the John Deere Classic in July 2017. The event will take place at East Lake GC, the site of the TOUR Championship and final event of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup series.

Divers Sweep League Championships

CARMICHAEL, Calif. – Junior Molly Wilson won the Delta League diving meet on Wednesday with a score of 425.85 to become the fourth consecutive Troubie to win the league title.

Overall, SF placed the top four finishers in the varsity competition. Wilson, who finished second to Tiffany Wong in 2016, posted a 425.85 to win by almost 100 poiints. Junior Julia Endicott was second with a score of 329.85 and freshman Maddy Miles scored 246.10 to place third. Junior Cami Lutes posted a 248.05 to finish fourth.

Caldwell Pitches and Powers Softball to Victory

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Catie Caldwell hit a grand slam and pitched 4.2 scoreless innings of relief to lead the Troubadours to a 14-4 victory over Monterey Trail.

“It feels pretty great,” said Caldwell. “After I hit the home run, I started shaking because I was so excited. I helped my team out and did my best. I put my part into the team effort.”

2017 Soccer Highlights

  • St. Francis finished with a 15-5-4 overall record, losing to No. 14 Folsom in the Sac-Joaquin Section quarterfinals.  The No-6 seeded Troubadours defeated No. 11 Modesto 3-0 in the opening round.
  • St. Francis was 10-2-2- in Delta League play, finishing second overall in the team standings. Sophomore Janae DeFazio tied for the Delta League individual lead in goals with 16 and led the league in points.

Swimming Posts Victory over Carondelet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis swimming teams posted a pair of victories over Carondelet last week to wrap up their dual meet season. The Troubadours went 8-1 in dual meets during the season.

“This dual helps us with our team confidence,” said Head Coach Richard Levin. “We swam well at the California Catholic Challenge and finished fourth. It is significant because we have never beat them in my time at St. Francis. It shows there is more left in the tank and we are getting hot at the right time of the season.”

Razo Among Four Named to All-Metro Basketball Teams

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Julia Razo was named to the Sacramento Bee All-Metro third team announced by the paper last week.

Razo was named to the Sacramento Bee All-Metro five player third-team selection and was an All-Delta league first team. She averaged a team-best 14.4 points in leading the team to the Delta League title and the NorCal Quarterfinals and Section quarterfinals. She scored a career-high 27 points against both Christian Brothers and Monterey Trail.
