Cross Country Finishes Second at Nike Invitational

CONCORD, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team finished second at the Carondelet Nike Invitational Saturday morning at Newhall Park.

Senior Miranda Myers led the team for the third straight meet, finishing sixth overall in 18:25 over the three-mile course. Classmate Peyton Bilo was 10th, finishing in the Top 10 for the third time this year with a time of 18:43. Freshman Ava Nkadi was the third Troubadour across in the line in 20th overall (19:31) in her varsity debut.

Water Polo Defeats Vintage 6-4

NAPA, Calif. – Juniors Sam Reinl and Jennalyn Barthels scored twice to lead St. Francis to a 6-4 win over Vintage Thursday afternoon.

The Troubadours held the Crushers scoreless in the first half to build and early 2-0 lead. The scoring picked up in the third as the teams combined to score five goals but the Troubadours finished the period with a 5-2 lead.

Vintage scored twice in the fourth but St. Francis prevailed 6-4.

Senior Lauren Charter and junior Maggie Oys each added goals in the victory.

Volleyball Loses League Opener at Pleasant Grove

ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team lost a tough 3-1 match at Pleasant Grove Thursday night, dropping their third straight overall in the Delta League opener for the Troubadours.

“We need to play better and eliminate our errors,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright.

The Troubies fell behind 2-0 but fought back to win the third 29-27. St. Francis erased two match points in a set that went back and forth with each team having a chance to win before closing it out to keep the chance for a comeback alive.

Golf Drops Dual Match to Davis

DAVIS, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team post its first dual match of the season to Davis 222-241 Wednesday at Wildhorse Golf Club.

Davis was led by its top two finishers Marie Dean and River Xiang, who shot 39 and 42. Junior Kate Swanson was third overall with a 43, while junior Makia Fang carded a 45.

Junior Kristi Lee, senior Victoria Ramirez and freshman Lauren Allen each shot 51 to tie for eighth overall. Junior Leslie young posted a 58.

Water Polo Posts 21-0 Shutout over Franklin

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Juniors Kira Chavez and Sam Reinl each scored three goals among 12 players overall who scored in a 21-0 victory over Franklin Wednesday at the Jesuit pool.

“I think we played well as a team and we had a really good counter attack offense,” said Chavez. “We executed pretty well.”

St. Francis (5-2) scored 11 times in the opening period and four times in the second to build a 15-0 halftime lead. The Troubadours added three goals in each of the final two periods and held Franklin scoreless to post the shutout.

Tennis Sweeps Sheldon to Improve Win Streak

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Kiya Jackson led the charge with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles as the St. Francis tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over Sheldon Wednesday afternoon at Rio del Oro Racquet Club. It was the fourth straight win for the team.

St. Francis (5-2) swept all nine matches on the afternoon, dropping a total of 10 games in six singles matches and seven games in three doubles matches.

Tennis Wins Third in a Row

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis swept all nine matches to post a 9-0 win over Elk Grove Monday at Rio del Oro Racquet Club. The Troubadours swept all six singles and three doubles matches in straight sets.

Senior Annie Gianulias and freshman Kiya Jackson both improved to 6-0 on the season with straight set wins in singles.

The Troubadours improve to 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in Delta League action. They return to the court on Wednesday against Sheldon at 3:45 p.m. at Rio del Oro.

Golf Second at First Delta River Center

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team finished second in the first Delta League Center at Bing Maloney Golf Course Monday.

The Troubadours shot a 422 to finish behind only Davis (389). Junior Kate Swanson led the team for the second consecutive outing with a team-best six-over par 78. St. Francis also counted an 83 by junior Mikia Fang and rounds of 86 by junior Leslie Young and senior Victoria Ramirez. Freshman Lauren Allen carded an 89 in her first prep round to round out the scoring for the team. Junior Kristi Lee posted a 12-over par 90.

Alumna Allie Wegener Making Her Mark for UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. – Allie Wegener started her sophomore season at UC Davis this month and the former St. Francis volleyball standout is enjoying every moment of her collegiate career at the local school.

Wegener is starting for the Aggies and ranks second on the team in kills and digs per set in the first nine games this season for first-year Head Coach Dan Conners.

JV Volleyball Wins Chris Craft Tournament , Freshmen Lose in CIVT Finals

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis JV volleyball team won the Chris Craft Tournament with a straight set win over Oak Ridge 25-23, 25-22 that completed a perfect day for the Troubadours.

Head Coach Taryn Wright’s team won six matches on the day. They opened with a win over Vista del Lago (23-25, 25-16, 15-7) before wins over the Ponderosa freshman team, Del Oro, Vacaville, Granite Bay and Oak Ridge.

Cross Country Led by Myers and Bilo at Ed Sias Invite

MARTINEZ, Calif.  – Seniors Miranda Myers and Peyton Bilo each posted top-five finishes to help St. Francis to a fourth-place finish at the Ed Sias Invitational Saturday.

Myers was the top Troubadour finisher in 12:17 over the two-mile course. She finished behind only Megan McCandless of Granda (11:37) and Brooke Starn of Monte Vista (12:04). Bilo was five seconds behind Myers in fifth overall (12:22).

Tennis Wins Two Matches in BOSS, Finishes Fifth Overall

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team went 2-1 and finished fifth in the Best of Sacramento Showcase Saturday. The Troubadours defeated McClatchy 7-2 and Roseville 8-1 on Saturday after opening the tournament with a 5-4 loss to Del Oro Friday.

Water Polo Finishes with Win at St. Francis Invitational

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – The St. Francis water polo team split a pair of games at the St. Francis Autumn Invitational Saturday, finishing with win over Leland. The Troubadours are now 4-2 on the season after going 2-2 in the tournament.

St. Francis lost a tough overtime contest to host St. Francis Mountain View Saturday morning. Senior Lauren Charter tied the game with 30 seconds left to force the extra period but St. Francis scored a golden goal in the first possession of the overtime.

Water Polo Splits Two Games at St. Francis Invitational

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – The St. Francis water polo team split two matches on Friday to open the St. Francis Autumn Invitational. Junior Maggie Oys scored three goals on the day, tallying two in the first and added the only Troubadour goal in a 4-1 loss to Clovis in the second.

The Troubadours opened the tournament with a 9-7 victory over Castilleja Friday afternoon.

Jennalyn Barthels and Julie Zanobini scored twice against Castilleja, while Caroline Urkov, Lauren Charter and Emily Reinl each added a single goal.

Water Polo Defeats Del Oro 16-5

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Ali Tambornini and senior Lauren Charter each scored four goals to lead the St. Francis water polo team to a 16-5 victory over Del Oro Thursday night at the Jesuit High school pool.

“I am pretty happy with our approach in the game and being as focused as we were,” said Head Coach Heather Moody. “We did not know anything about Del Oro so we played our style of water polo.”

St. Francis (2-0) scored at least three goals in each quarter and got a strong performance from goalie Elizabeth Minor, who made four saves.

Davis Hands Tennis First Defeat 6-3

DAVIS, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team lost at Davis 6-3 in the first meeting between the schools as members of the Delta League Wednesday afternoon.

“Overall, it was a good team effort,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector. “We knew it was going to be a tough match. By playing them today, we are going to learn a few things about them and we play them on our home courts next time. It is good to have a really tough match.”

Golf Posts Victory over Pleasant Grove in Opener

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Three players posted seven-over par rounds of 43 as the St. Francis golf team opened with a 218-226 victory over Pleasant Grove in the opening Delta League match of the season.

“It is one of the best efforts we have had as a whole group with only three shots separating the team,” said Head Coach Cindy Mah-Lyford. “It is extremely exciting to see the depth in our roster this year and there even was a playoff for the last spot in the lineup.”

Junior Kate Swanson was one of the three Troubadours to post a 43 in the opening match.
