Four Student-Athletes Honored by SFHS Booster Club
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The SFHS Booster Club recognized four senior student-athletes at the 2014 Awards Ceremony.
Senior Lauren LaRocco was named the SFHS Booster Club Scholar-Athlete Scholarship recipient, while Brinnley Barthels, Emily Laskin and Jane Sadler were named winners of the SFHS Booster Club Leadership Scholarship.
Lauren LaRocco was named the Delta River League Runner of the Year in cross country. She won the Delta River League title for the third consecutive season, finished second at the Sac-Joaquin Section meet and finished sixth overall at the state championships. LaRocco won six individual races on the season. She has signed to run at the University of Portland.
On the track, she has been sidelined by an injury that has limited her to two meets this season. Prior to her injury, she posted a state leading 4:37 in the 1500 and ranks fourth in the section with her time of 5:07.66 in the 1600 posted in the season opener. She returned to the track on April 30. She has a cumulative grade point average of 4.39.
Barthels, who will play water polo at Pacific, was named to the CIF Sac-Joaquin All-Section water polo first-team and was selected the Player of the Year for the St. Francis varsity team. She tied for the team lead with 35 goals on the season, scoring a team-best 50 points while recording 25 steals. She averaged a team-best 1.17 goals per game in 30 games on the season.
Laskin was named the DRL Player of the Year for golf for the second consecutive season. Laskin helped the Troubadours win the Delta River League title and the Division I North title for the eighth consecutive season. Laskin, who will attend the U.S. Naval Academy to play golf, led the team in scoring average on the season.
Sadler, a two-sport standout, played both tennis and lacrosse for the Troubadours. She was an All-Delta River League selection on the tennis court, posting a 7-3 mark at No. 3 singles. She also played three different doubles spots, recording an 8-3 mark. She is finishing her lacrosse season this week before the start of playoffs next week. Sadler, who will attend the University of California, Berkeley, has scored 16 goals on the season.
