Softball Pulls Out 14-12 Win over Oak Ridge

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – Senior Amy Marks singled in two runs with two outs in the top of the seventh inning and closed out the game on the mound with a perfect seventh to help St. Francis to a 14-12 win over Oak Ridge Thursday night.

St. Francis (7-6, 2-3 DRL) trailed by five runs twice in the game before tying the game in the fifth, taking a lead in the sixth and finally overtaking the Trojans in the seventh.

Softball Loses at Sheldon

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sheldon’s top four hitters combined for nine hits and eight RBI to lead the team to a 10-0 victory over St. Francis. The Troubadours were held to just two hits by junior pitcher Gabrielle Montaie.

The Huskies scored two in the first and five in the second off starter Amy Marks on eight hits. Megan Garren pitched the final two innings.

Alejandra Garcia and Marks recorded the only hits on the afternoon for the Troubadours.

St. Francis (6-6, 1-3) plays at Oak Ridge on Thursday at 4 p.m..

Softball Defeated by Christian Brothers in Albie Swingin’ for Life Event

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis softball team was defeated 6-4 by Christian Brothers Saturday in the third game of the Albie Swingin’ for Life Softball Tournament held at St. Francis. Pioneer defeated River City 8-3 and Davis handed Rio Linda a 16-3 loss earlier in the afternoon.

Christian Brothers Haley Snyder shut down St. Francis over the final 3.1 innings out of the bullpen as the Falcons overcame a 4-3 deficit to post the win.

O’Mara Leads Softball to 9-0 Win over Folsom

FOLSOM, Calif. – Rhyann O’Mara went 5-for-5 with a home run and three runs scored to pace St. Francis to a 9-0 victory over Folsom Friday night in a game rescheduled after a rainout last Tuesday.

St. Francis record 16 hits with five players registering multi-hit games ad Emily Ainsley allowed just four hits over 6.2 innings out of the bullpen in relief of Meg Garren.

The Troubadours scored in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by Alexis Viramontes, scoring O’Mara who had singled.

Softball’s Viramontes to Play Softball at Cal-State Dominguez Hills

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior third baseman Alexis Viramontes has committed to play softball at Cal-State Dominguez Hills next year.

 “I chose Dominguez Hills for their small classes,” said Viramontes. “I like to be in a small environment. It helps you develop a better relationship with your teachers and I do well in small environments.”

Viramontes will play for a new staff that took over last September for the Toros.

Softball Loses at Pleasant Grove

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Pleasant Grove posted a 10-0 shutout victory over St. Francis Wednesday behind a two-hit complete game by Celina Matthias.

The Troubadours managed just two hits and committed four errors that led to six unearned runs in the contest. The Eagles scored four runs in the second, one in the third, three in the fifth and two in the sixth on 10 hits. Three players had two hits in the contest.

Mel Baccay and Rhyann O’Mara each had singles in the game for the Troubadours.

Soccer and Softball Canceled, Lax Will Play at Mather

Soccer Games against Pleasant Grove scheduled today at St. Francis Troubadour Athletics have been postponed. They have been re-scheduled for April 9 at St. Francis with the varsity at 4 p.m. and junior varsity at 5:30 p.m. Freshmen soccer practice and the St. Francis Varsity and JV softball games at Folsom have also been canceled. Lacrosse against Granite Bay at 5:30 and 7:30 will be played as scheduled at Mather Sports Center.

The six schools participating in the breast cancer benefit sponsored by the Albie Aware Breast Cancer Foundation include Davis Senior, Christian Brothers, Pioneer, Rio Linda, River City and host St. Francis.

Softball Falls to Ponderosa 1-0

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Megan Garren allowed just four hits over seven innings but Ponderosa squeaked out a 1-0 victory over St. Francis in the Delta River League opener Thursday for the Troubadours.

“She re-directed herself last week and decided it was time to step up,” said Co-Head Coach Al LoGiudice of the effort by Garren. “Today was a prime example. She was keeping the ball low. She pitched an awesome game and did a fantastic job.”

Softball Falls Twice on Saturday at Victory Tournament

ELK GROVE, Calif. – St. Francis lost in the semifinals in extra innings of the Victory Tournament Saturday afternoon 5-4 to Vacaville, falling for the first time on the season.

Vacaville scored once in the top of the eighth inning on a single by Brianna Dick and Katie Kirby pitched a scoreless final inning leaving the tying run on base.

Marks Leads Softball to 9-8 Victory over Del Oro

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Amy Marks had five runs batted in and got the win on the mound as St. Francis defeated Del Oro in the home opener at Schuster Field on the St. Francis campus.

“I felt more solid yesterday but I am not disappointed in the fact I got a home run,” said Marks. “It could have been a better hit but I got it over, so that is good.”

Marks went 2-for-3 with 5 RBI and allowed eight runs (four earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts in the complete game victory.

Softball Opens Season with Win over Franklin

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Senior Alejandra Garcia went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead St. Francis to a 14-1 victory over Franklin in their season opener.

“It is always fun to jump on a team early,” said Garcia, who has signed with Cal Poly. “We have been putting in a lot of work offensively and it is fun to see every girl get a hit.”

Softball Games at Franklin Moved Back to Friday

SACRAMENTO, CAlif. – The official start of the 2014 season will have to wait three more days. The St. Francis JV and Varsity softball games scheduled at Franklin have been postponed today. They have been re-scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m.

Softball Scrimmages Canceled for Saturday

SACRAMAENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis softball scrimmages for both the varsity and junior varsity teams scheduled for Saturday at Vista del Lago and Oak Ridge, respectively, have been canceled. Both teams open the regular season on Tuesday March 4 at Franklin at 4 p.m.
