Golf Advances to CIF NorCals with Third-Place Masters Finish
STOCKTON, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team qualified for the CIF NorCal Regional Championships with a third-place finish at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters tournament on Monday at the Reserve at Spanos Park. The NorCals will be held at the The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch in Salinas on Monday, November 7.
“I know the whole team is super excited,” said junior captain Chase Saca. “We have worked really hard and this was ultimately our goal for the season. It was great.”
Saca tied for the low score of the day for the Troubadours with an eight-over par 80, shooting 39-41.
Westover to Play Lacrosse at USC
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Sarah Westover has committed to play lacrosse at USC and will sign with the Trojans on Nov. 9.
“This year after my official visit and being in the life of USC, I am really excited to get there and experience it,” said Westover, who originally committed to the Trojans as a sophomore. “They are such a family. They are all about winning as well as your well-being.”
Alumnae Dominate at NCAA Conference Cross Country Meets
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Former Troubadour cross country standouts Peyton Bilo ‘15, Lauren LaRocco ‘14 and Miranda Myers ’15 each helped their teams to wins at the their respective conference championships over the last two days.
Cal Poly sophomore Bilo won the Big West title with a time 21:04, winning by 17 seconds over UCSB junior Jenna Hinkle, and helping the Mustangs to their second straight title in Kahuku, Hawaii. They were ranked No. 36 in the latest rankings.
JV Volleyball Completes Season 32-1
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Chemistry was the magic formula for the St. Francis Junior Varsity volleyball team. It produced 32 wins, two tournament titles, a win over Christian Brothers and, ultimately, a team ready to impact the next level.
Water Polo Garners No. 5 Seed in Section Bracket
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis water polo team received a No. 5 seed in the Sac-Joaquin Section bracket announced Friday. The Troubadours will host a game at Jesuit High School on Wednesday, Nov. 2 against No. 12 River City. The winner advances to a quarterfinal matchup against the winner of No. 13 Enochs and No. 4 Lincoln of Stockton on Friday.
St. Francis closed out the regular season with a loss at Davis, the top seed in the bracket, on Thursday night.
The Troubadours are the defending Sac-Joaquin Section champions.
Volleyball Garners No. 5 Seed in Div. II Bracket
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis volleyball was awarded a No. 5 seed and will host No. 12 Vintage on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. Playoff ticket prices will apply and Lifetime Booster and SportsPasses will not be accepted.
Frosh Volleyball Finishes 25-1, Perfect in League
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Volleyball Head Coach Lawrence Whang does not judge his teams on wins and losses. The first season in the program is about setting the tone for the future in skill-work, team bonding and practice. But if he did, the young Troubadours had a successful season.
“Overall the team did great,” said Whang. “Personally I don’t characterize (success) by wins and losses. It is how we do on the court. If we do well, we produce wins.”
Jackson Sisters Win Delta League Doubles
ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Juniors Kiya and Kyla Jackson defended their Delta League doubles title and will represent the league in the Sac-Joaquin Section Individual doubles tournament Nov. 3-4 at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club.
The Jackson sisters defeated Lauren Duan and Lyna Jiang of Davis 6-3, 5-4 before the Blue Devil pair had to retire in the second set of the final. To reach the final, they defeated teammates Macy Wood and Sabrina Voeller in the semifinals 6-0, 6-1 and Cameron Parra and Samantha Sonntag in the quarterfinals 6-1, 6-1 in posting a perfect 4-0 mark on the day.
Volleyball Sends Seniors Out with Win
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team posted a 3-0 win over Franklin to send their five seniors out on a winning note in the final regular season home match. The Troubadours posted a 25-2, 25-10, 25-15 win over the Wildcats.
“It was a really exciting game and we were all ready and prepared to win tonight,” said senior Emily Davis. “We wanted to play hard and show our senior pride for our last home game. It was an exciting way for it end.”
Senior Claire Barbe led the team with 15 kills, while freshman Alexa Edwards had 13 kills and 10 digs/

Sweeney Leads Golf into Masters Tournament
ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Sophomore Patricia Sweeney shot a personal-best two-over par 74 to lead the St. Francis golf team into the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Monday at Timber Creek CC.
Sweeney’s 74 tied for third overall one stroke off the low round of the day set by Perry of Oak Ridge and Rachani of Granite Bay. It was her low round of her prep career, improving on an 81 shot in the Delta League Center match.
St. Francis shot 432 to advance to the Masters tournament along with Granite Bay (389) and Oak Ridge (408).
Barbe Commits to Play Volleyball at Gonzaga
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Claire Barbe has dreamed of playing volleyball at Gonzaga since she was a little girl. Next month, her dream will come true when she signs with the Zags.
“It has been my dream since I started playing sports,” said Barbe, who is one of two captains on the team. “I never imagined myself getting to this point. I am amazed I got there.”
Barbe grew up visiting her grandparents’ home in Spokane, Wash., and visiting the Zags campus bookstore.
Tennis Receives Bye, High Seed in Section Tennis Bracket
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – After posting an undefeated season in the Delta League, the St. Francis tennis team earned the league’s top seed and bye for the first round, the Sac-Joaquin Section office announced Friday.
“I am super proud of our team this year going undefeated,” said Spector. “We have always had great results in my tenure but have never gone undefeated in the league. It is a testament to the girls, the team, coaches and everything working together. The parents are also a huge part of our team. We are looking forward to seeing how far we can go in the playoffs.”
Soccer Team Named 2015-16 NSCAA High School Team Academic Award Recipient
SACRAMENTO, Calif.– The St. Francis soccer team was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with the 2015-16 High School Team Academic Award. The team had a 3.63 combined grade point average last spring.
The NSCAA annually recognizes high school soccer programs that have excelled in the classroom, in addition to their performance on the field. It is the second consecutive season the program has been honored with the distinguished award under the guidance of Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson.
Tennis Celebrates Seniors with Win; Seal Delta League title
ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team defeated Franklin 7-2 Tuesday to complete the season sweep over the Wildcats and move one win closer to posting a perfect league season. The Troubadours also celebrated their six seniors before the match.
“Being part of tennis the past four years and seeing the team grow stronger each year has been awesome,” said senior Annie Gianulias. “We started out third in the league our freshmen year and we have built our way up to No. 1. It is pretty cool to see how we have grown together.”
Golf Clinches Delta League Title with One-Stroke Center Victory
DAVIS, Calif. – Head Golf Coach Bert Jones has preached every stroke matters since he took over the program in August. The Troubadours made their coaches’ mantra prove prophetic Monday, clinching the Delta League title with a one-stroke win in the third and final Center match Monday at El Macero CC.
Cross Country Wins Bronco Invitational
FOLSOM, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team won the Bronco Invitational with 55 points behind the 1-2 finish by standouts freshman Izzy Fauria and junior Sydney Vandegrift.
St. Francis placed their top six among the top 23 to edge Buchanan (74 points) and Clovis North (109 points) on the course site for the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships. Buchanan finished sixth in Clovis last week ahead of the St. Francis in 10th.
Water Polo Wins Senior Night Match with El Camino
CARMICHAEL, Calif. – Seniors Aubree Barr, Sally Ferguson and Frances Barbour each scored four times and senior goalie Maddy Vine recorded a scoreless first half in the cage as St. Francis posted a 21-1 victory over El Camino Friday night.
Barbour scored three times in the first quarter as the Troubadours built a 10-0 lead. St. Francis (9-9) would extend the lead to 14-0 at the break with four more goals in the second quarter.
Tennis Posts Perfect Week with Two Sweeps
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team posted a perfect week, recording two 9-0 sweeps in Delta League play. The Troubadours defeated Elk Grove on Tuesday and Sheldon on Thursday, moving closer to clinching the Delta League title.
Sophomore Myra Anwar and juniors Kiya Jackson and Kyla Jackson played in both matches in singles, winning each in straight sets. Six other players including seniors Abby Benvenuti and Annie Gianulias, juniors Marisa Fat and Cameron Parra and freshman Adithi Benush and Samantha Sonntag posted singles victories.
Golf Finishes Dual Season Undefeated
ELK GROVE, Calif. – Freshman Ceci Fletcher shot a season-best five-over par 38 to lead St. Francis to a 198 team score on Wednesday as the Troubadours defeated Franklin by forfeit. The match was played on Emerald Lakes.
St. Francis improved to 7-0 in dual match play, running their league dual match win streak to 19 over the last three seasons. The Troubadours last lost on dual to Davis on Sept. 17, 2014.
