Swimmer Erin Crooks Commits to Swim at Lafayette

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior swimmer Erin Crooks will swim at Lafayette College next fall, joining the Leopard’s Division I program in the Patriot League.

“It feels really good,” said Crooks. “It is nice knowing my college search is over and I have found a place that I am excited about. I am looking forward to spending four years at Lafayette and the opportunities I will have.”

Crooks was drawn to the complete experience offered on the Easton, Pa., campus.

Swimmer Mitchell Coordinates Successful Caps for Cancer

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – Junior swimmer Chloe Mitchell helped raise $2,200 for breast cancer research via her 2014 Caps for Cancer Fundraiser with all the proceeds donated to the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center Breast Cancer research department.

Mitchell was touched by cancer early in her life when two friends lost their mothers to the disease. She wanted to do more than wear a pink shirt or dye her hair.

“The situation inspired me to do something for women who have or had breast cancer to promote research,” said Mitchell.

Troubadours to Compete in New Delta League

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis will play in the Delta League beginning this fall with many familiar faces and several new ones.

“The Delta League has a lot of history and it is great it is back in existence,” said Delta League Commissioner Ron Nocetti.

The Troubadours move into the newly formed Delta League along with Pleasant Grove and Sheldon from the Delta River League. The league is a realignment of members of both the Delta River and Delta Valley Leagues.

Gregg Named River Cats Girls Soccer Player of the Year
17 Troubadours Named to All-City Teams

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis junior soccer player Anna Gregg was named the River Cats Girls Soccer Player of the Year at the High School Awards Ceremony before Sunday’s game against the Tacoma Rainers.

“It means so much and feels so great,” said Gregg of the Player of the Year honor. “I set a goal to help to the section championship and that was accomplished. I could not be happier.”

Gregg and her St. Francis teammates captured the Sac-Joaquin Section title on Saturday on her goal to defeat Oak Ridge 1-0.

Swimming Finishes Third at Section Championships

LODI, Calif. – The St. Francis swimming team finished third overall at the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships contested Saturday at Tokay High School, finishing behind champion Granite Bay and Davis.

“Knowing how good Granite Bay and Davis were, the third-place finish as the top school among the rest felt pretty good,” said Head Coach Richard Levin. “We had some great performances in the relays, especially Emily Peters who swam an outstanding 50 leg in the 200 free relay. Katie McIntee led off two relays and was a trouper stepping into the spotlight.”

Section Trials Recap: Johnson Hoping for Memorable Final Swims

LODI, Calif. – St. Francis senior Maddie Johnson will swim the final meet of her high school career on Saturday at the Sac-Joaquin Section Girls finals at Tokay High School.

“It is exciting because it is my senior year,” said Johnson, who reached the championship final in her signature event the 100 butterfly. “I am really looking forward to doing well and leaving my mark and getting some best times.”

17 Troubadours Named to River Cats All-City Teams

SACRAMENTO, – Calif.  – Seventeen St. Francis Troubadours have been named to the 2013-14 River Cats All-City  teams and will be recognized on Sunday at the High School Sports Awards Ceremony before the River Cats take on the Tacoma Rainiers at 1:05 p.m. at Raley Field.

The St. Francis All-City fall sports selections include senior golfer Emily Laskin, volleyball seniors Ali Koumelis and Anna Baytosh and cross country runners Lauren LaRocco, Madison Rawson and Miranda Myers.

Swimming Wins Delta River League Title

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – The St. Francis swimming team won the Delta River League title for the sixth consecutive season, recording an impressive 19 event wins Saturday at the El Dorado Hills swimming complex.

“It was a strong performance,” said Head Coach Richard Levin. “I was really pleased with the swims. The kids came together as a team. They swam fast and swam hard to come out on top.”

Seniors Maddie Johnson and AnnClaire MacArt and sophomore Chloe Mitchell each won two events Saturday.

Swimming Places Third at NorCals; MacArt Wins 100 Freestyle

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Senior AnnClaire MacArt won the 100 freestyle to lead St. Francis to a third-place finish at the 2014 NorCal Swimming Championships held at the Roseville Aquatic Center last weekend.

St. Francis finished third with 303 points, just five behind second-place Davis Senior. San Ramon won the girls event with 670 points. The Troubadours finished ahead of Woodcreek (257) and Granite Bay (228).

The Troubadours posted 16 top-16 performances, including seven in the top eight.

Senior Swimmer AnnClaire MacArt Looks to Continue Fast Times

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior swimmer AnnClaire MacArt will be part of a talented group of 32 swimmers who qualified to represent the St. Francis swimming team this weekend at the Nor Cal Championships to be held at the Roseville Aquatic Center Friday and Saturday.

“It is our first true test,” said Head Coach Richard Levin. “It will really show us how the rest of the year will go. Our goals for the weekend are swimming best times and getting some second swims. We want kids to make finals and come back on Saturday to swim in the race that counts.”

Swimming Sweeps Past Pleasant Grove

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis swept all 11 events to post a 130-36 victory over Pleasant Grove in a dual meet Wednesday at the Jesuit High School pool.

Seniors Annclaire Macart and Maddie Johnson both won two events on the afternoon. Macart, a Dartmouth signee, won the 200 freestyle in 1:57.53 and returned to win the 100 free in 54.49 to edge teammates Alexis Martinez (57.59) and Isabella Smith (58.28). Johnson, who signed with TCU, won the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:16.60 and then touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly in a winning time of 1:09.09.

Swimming Has Strong Swims against Clovis West and Granite Bay

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Maddie Johnson recorded two top-three finishes in the tri-meet with Clovis West and Granite Bay on Wednesday, March 19.

Johnson finished second in the 200 IM in a time of 2:18.22 and touched the wall third in the 100 yard fly in 1:00.49.

Alyssa Tambornini was sixth in the 50-yard free in 26.12 with teammate Isabella Smith finishing seventh in 26.24. Tambornini also was seventh in the 100 free in 57.86, the top SF finisher in the event.

Swimming Posts Win over Rio Americano

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis varsity swimming team posted a 96-90 victory over Rio Americano Thursday at Jesuit High School.

“It is always good local competition between good friends,” said Head Coach Richard Levin of the meet against Rio Americano. “You want to swim well against them. A lot of them are training partners and part of the same club teams. To swim well here is a good indicator for the rest of our season.”

Rio Americano defeated St. Francis by over 100 points and edged the Troubadours in the standings at the section meet last season.

Swimming Preps for Season with Red-Gold Meet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis swimming team opened the 2014 season with the Red-Gold meet on Tuesday. The Troubadours competed in five events including the 50-yard freestyle, 100y butterfly, 100y freestyle and 100y backstroke and 100y breaststroke.

“Our main goal is to get the team out together and get them swimming as a group,” said Head Coach Richard Levin. “It is important to have a good first experience before the Jesuit Invitational and have fun as a group.”

Swimming Team Meeting Set for Jan. 31

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis swimming team will hold a mandatory meeting for all students who wish to participate on the 2014 St. Francis swim team on Friday, Jan. 31 in Room 404 from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.

California Swim Shop will be at the meeting to order swim suits and parkas. The 2014 meet schedule and practice times will be announced at the meetings.

There will also be a parent meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 4 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the cafeteria.

The first day of practice is Monday, Feb. 10.
