Senior Cobile Sparks Foundation Win at West Campus

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Maureen Cobile scored eight points and sparked the Troubadours to a 55-45 win over West Campus in their Foundation Game Monday night to open the 2014015 season. Cobile missed her entire junior season due to an injury and responded with a big debut.

“I thought she was a catalyst,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “She gave us energy defensively and guarded their speedy guard. Offensively, she supplied us with eight points coming at the end of the first and beginning of the second which really helped. I thought she was the player of the game.”

Cross Country Places Third at State Meet

FRESNO, Calif. – The theme for the weekend was Wizard of Oz and the Troubadours clicked their heels all the way down the yellow dirt road at Woodpark Park to find a top three trophy at the end of the road Saturday.

With the third-place finish, St. Francis recorded a top-five finish for the third time in the last four seasons. The Troubadours finished among the Top 10 for the fourth straight season and became the third Nor Cal team to earn a podium finish at the Division I state meet (St. Francis, 2012; Davis, 2013) and second in school history.

Myers and Bilo Passing on the Torch in Final Meet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – For four years of workouts, hills, mile repeats, hugs, laughter and tears, the duo of Peyton Bilo and Miranda Myers have been the heart and soul of a St. Francis cross country team that has been among the best in the state. They will toe the line Saturday for the final time together in a quest for a memorable ending to their four-year varsity cross country careers.

“We are going to try to run personal bests and have fun out there,” said Bilo. “We are shooting for Top 10 overall. We will see what happens.”

Alumna Nightingale Hoping for Another Championship
Troubie Named to CIF All-Century Team

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – UCLA senior middle blocker Zoe Nightingale told college coaches she wanted to play for and win a national championship. She did just that in her freshmen year and now she wants to perform an encore to bookend her career.

Nightingale, a 2011 graduate of St. Francis, helped the Bruins win the title in her freshman season, earning a selection to the NCAA All-Tournament team in the process.

Alumna Kasey Clark Finishes Special Season at Lawrence Tech

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Former Troubadour volleyball player Kasey Clark went back to serve like she has done a thousand times. But something was different. When she turned around, she was mobbed by her teammates.

“I went back to serve and all my teammates started running up to me,” said Clark, who is a senior at Lawrence Tech in Southfield, Mich. “I had no idea what was going on.”

Volleyball Drops Section Semifinals to No. 1 Pitman

TURLOCK, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team lost to No. 1 Pitman in the semifinals of the Sac-Joaquin Section semifinals 3-1 Tuesday night, ending their season.

“I told the kids that there is only one team that gets to end their season with a victory and that is in the state championship,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “I was proud of them for battling but it does hurt.”

Water Polo Finishes Season with Loss in Section Finals

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis water polo team put in a valiant effort but fell in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoff finals to Davis 7-4 at Roseville Aquatic Complex Saturday.

“We were the underdogs coming in,” said Head Coach Heather Moody. “I thought we performed really well. I am really stoked because as a group, we stepped up and really took on the game.”

St. Francis finished second in the section overall and recorded a 17-11 overall record.

The Troubadours scored first on a goal by junior Jennalyn Barthels to take the early advantage.

Cross Country Qualifies for CIF State Meet

FOLSOM, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team finished third at the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships and earned a berth to the CIF State Championships for the fourth consecutive year.

“Today was a really exciting meet for the varsity girls,” said Assistant Coach Mason Myers. “It was one of our big goals to qualify from sections to state. The girls went after it and had incredible individual races and had a 52 second gap between our first and fifth places to seal a great effort.”

Cross Country and Water Polo Section Finals Live Online

The Sac-Joaquin Section and the NFHS Network will broadcast the section cross country championships Saturday morning starting at 9 a.m. and each of the water polo finals including the St. Francis-Davis matchup at 3:30 p.m.

Fans must register on the NFHS page and there is a daily fee to see the section playoff game.

Regular season St. Francis broadcasts are free.

The St. Francis golf team shot a 459 team score to finish sixth at the Sac-Joaquin Masters Monday at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton. The Troubadours failed to advance to the NorCal Championships, the third round of the sections playoffs.

Volleyball Advances with Win over Granite Bay

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – After meeting in the Sac-Joaquin Section finals each of the last two years, one school was going to miss the final in 2014 as No. 4 seed St. Francis and No. 5 seed Granite Bay squared off Thursday night. The Troubadours prevailed with a 25-23, 25-17, 25-21 win at St. Francis.

“It is really exciting,” said senior Kylie Green. “I am really proud of what we have done this month and throughout the season. I am excited for our next game.”

Oys and Zanobini Lead Water Polo into Section Finals

CLOVIS, Calif. – Juniors Maggie Oys and Julie Zanobini scored a combined four goals in the second half to help No. 2 seed St. Francis advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section finals against Davis with an 8-4 win on Thursday.

 “It feels really good,” said Oys. “I am really proud of the way the team played and I am looking forward to Saturday.”

Both Oys and Zanobini are from Davis and led the charge in the second half to setup the section championship appearance against rival Davis.

Rivalry Renewed
St. Francis and Granite Bay Meet Again

Granite Bay and St. Francis meet again with a lot on the line. Granite Bay, the defending state and section champion, eliminated the Troubadours last season in both the Nor Cal and Section Championships. 

“It seems to be the match we all look forward to and prepare for every day at practice,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “Both teams are talented and Granite Bay is well coached. We know we have to bring our best every time we play them.”

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Nine St. Francis High School seniors signed a National Letter-of-Intent or made a commitment to play collegiate sports next year at schools across the country Wednesday. They were recognized on campus as part of the school’s formal fall signing day recognition.
