Swimmer Erin Crooks Commits to Swim at Lafayette

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior swimmer Erin Crooks will swim at Lafayette College next fall, joining the Leopard’s Division I program in the Patriot League.

“It feels really good,” said Crooks. “It is nice knowing my college search is over and I have found a place that I am excited about. I am looking forward to spending four years at Lafayette and the opportunities I will have.”

Crooks was drawn to the complete experience offered on the Easton, Pa., campus.

Tennis Season Ends in 5-4 Loss at St. Mary’s

STOCKTON, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team lost a tough 5-4 match to St. Mary’s in the quarterfinals of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Championships. St. Mary’s advanced to face Del Oro in the semifinals.

“I gathered the girls after the match and looking at all of their faces, I told them I was so proud of how hard they worked all season long,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector. “For such a young team, they came together and improved drastically all season.”

Senior Miranda Reyes Finds Her Calling in Rowing

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Miranda Reyes has faced obstacles all her life. But she has never let them slow her down.  She found her calling on a boat and after four years as a coxswain for the Upper Natoma Rowing Club, she will be competing for the Portland Pilots crew team next year in college.

Reyes, who is a little person, played sports growing up including both volleyball and golf. But she faced limitations continuing sports in high school. During her freshmen year, some family friends introduced her to crew and she gave it a try.

Cross Country Advances to Section Meet

ANGELS CAMP, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section meet easily with a fourth-place finish at the Sub-Sections Saturday.

Senior Peyton Bilo was the top finisher for the team in 20:28 to cross 18th, while classmate Miranda Myers was 28th in 20:40. Freshmen Sydney Vandegrift and Ava Nkadi crossed the line simultaneously to place 32nd. Junior Ariane Arndt was four seconds back.

Water Polo Rolls into Section Quarterfinals

MODESTO, Calif. – The St. Francis water polo team rolled past Enochs 22-2 in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs at Johansen High School Saturday afternoon.

“We are really excited,” said senior Annie Rafeld, who scored two goals and added an assist. “We are taking it one game at a time. I really want us to get to the final game and win everything.”

St. Francis jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter but Head Coach Heather Moody was not happy with how the team was playing.

Charter to Play Water Polo at Cal

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior water polo player Lauren Charter grew up in a Cal Bear family and now she will continue the legacy after receiving an offer to play for the UC-Berkeley water polo program next year.

“Cal has been a major part of my life,” said Charter. “I will be a fourth generation student at Cal. I was born and raised as a Cal Bear and I am so glad I get to carry on that tradition. To be a student-athlete at such a premier school, it is unimaginable. I am so honored and thankful. It has been my dream to go to Cal and be able to play.”

Volleyball Seeded Fourth in Section Playoffs

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team is seeded fourth in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoff bracket announced Wednesday afternoon.

St. Francis (28-11) will host 13th-seeded Woodcreek on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. with the winner advancing to play the winner of No. 5 Granite Bay and No. 12 Franklin-EG. The Troubadours would host the quarterfinal game on Thursday, Nov. 13.

The semifinals will be played on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at school sites with the section final at U.C. Davis at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21.

Softball’s Danika Bailey to Sign with Cal

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior softball player Danika Bailey will sign with California on National Letter of Intent signing day on Wednesday, November 12. Bailey committed to the Bears as a sophomore and recently confirmed her commitment after an official visit to the school.

Volleyball Celebrates Seniors and Win over Grant

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – For one night, they were the queens of the court. The St. Francis volleyball team celebrated their nine seniors in a pre-game ceremony before posting a 25-5, 25-0, 25-9 victory over Grant to close out the 2014 regular season.

“It was a fun night,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “The seniors had fun and they played pretty well.”

The Troubadours opened the match with a 25-5 win in the first set before posting a 25-0 win in the second. Marissa Gollnick served out the complete game. The Troubadours closed out the match with a 25-9 win in the third.

Tennis Advances to Section Quarters

MODESTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team posted an 8-1 victory over Gregori of Modesto Tuesday to advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section quarterfinals for the second consecutive season. The Troubadours will face the top seed out of the Tri-City Athletic League St. Mary’s on Monday in Stockton.

St. Mary’s was a 9-0 winner over Merced in a second round match on Tuesday.

Gianulias, Troubadours Advance to Section Second Round

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Annie Gianulias likes to unleash her hard serve on game and match points and she has had plenty of practice during an undefeated sophomore season for the Troubadour tennis program.

“If it is match or game point, I like to hit my serve really hard to try for an ace or get a really good shot,” said Gianulias.

Gianulias posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Daniela Pantoja of Franklin of Stockton at No. 5 singles to improve to 14-0 on the season Monday.

The Davis Blue Devils upset St. Francis in five sets 3-2 Thursday night in a come-from-behind effort to hand the Troubadours their second loss in Delta League play this season.

Water Polo Closes Nor Cals with Overtime Loss

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Senior Lauren Charter scored four times in an overtime loss to Acalanes to close play at the Nor Cal Championships Saturday for the St. Francis water polo team.

The Troubadours led at the break 5-3 and had a two-goal lead entering the fourth. But Acalanes scored twice in the fourth to tie the game and won the game with three goals in overtime.

Juniors Jennalyn Barthels, Kira Chavez and Maggie Oys also scored in the contest.

Cross Country Places Three in Top 10; Finishes Second

FOLSOM, Calif. – Senior Miranda Myers led three Troubadours among the Top 10 as the St. Francis cross country team finished second at the Delta League Meet Saturday at Willow Hills Reservoir.

“I got out pretty fast in front some of the Davis girls,” said Myers. “That was the key for my race to get out fast. I held my pace and got passed once on the back loop but I think I ran the hills really well and kept pushing myself.”

Water Polo Wins in Double Overtime over Clovis North

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Junior Sam Reinl scored in sudden death on an assist from Ali Tambornini to give St. Francis an 11-10 win over Clovis North at the Nor Cal Championships.

It helped the Troubadours finish their first day with a split after dropping a 12-4 decision to Campolindo in the opening games.

Junior Maggie Oys tied the game with less than one minute left to force the overtime periods. St. Francis has led 8-5 going into the fourth period before Clovis North scored four times to take a 9-8 lead.
