Six St. Francis Soccer Players to Sign Wednesday
TroubieTV to Showcase the Celebration Live

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Anna Gregg is among six St. Francis seniors who will participate in a celebration Wednesday to recognize their commitments to play soccer at colleges and universities across the country. The celebration will take place in the CLC at 9 a.m. on campus and will be broadcast live on TroubieTV.

Chelini to Play Soccer at Cal Lutheran

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Izzy Chelini will play at Cal Lutheran next fall after committing to the school this fall. She plays for the San Juan soccer club, one of three Troubadours affiliated with the team.

“Izzy has been playing with us since the under nines,” said San Juan director Tony Perez. “She has always stood out as one of our most technical players on that team. She has made the most out of her skills.”

Perez likes her priorities in selecting a school.

Basketball Falls to Davis at Buzzer

DAVIS, Calif. – Davis senior Caitlin Mazzoleni hit a 14-fott jumper at the buzzer to give Davis a 53-52 victory over St. Francis Monday night.

“I thought the effort was very good,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “They came out with a purpose. We had a little fatigue and we again rushed a few possessions so we had some dangerous turnovers that set the tone for them to get back in the game. They made the shot at end and we did not value the ball enough. Overall, the girls played very well and competed the whole game.”

Goalie Carmickle to Sign with UC Davis

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis goalie Allie Carmickle will sign to play for and attend school at UC Davis on National Letter-of-Intent Signing Day on Wednesday.

“I can’t even describe it,” said Carmickle of her anticipation for signing day. “I don’t think I have comprehended it enough and the realization that in less than a year I will be off playing Division I soccer at UC Davis. I can’t wait for it and it is going to be a memorable moment. I think I will remember it for the rest of life.”

St. Francis Senior Addie Wallace to Join Villanova Soccer Program

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Addie Wallace will sign a National Letter-of-Intent to attend and play soccer at Villanova University next fall. She will participate in a ceremony at St. Francis Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.

“I really liked the school and coaches,” said Wallace about her recruitment to the Philadelphia school.  “It has been nice to know where I was going especially since I love the school.”

Varsity Basketball Falls at Pleasant Grove

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Pleasant Grove held St. Francis to four points over the final eight minutes to pull out a 46-32 victory over the Troubadours.

St. Francis had rallied to tie the game at 27 in the third quarter after falling behind by double digits in the first half. But the Troubadours were out-scored 19-5 over the rest of the game as the Eagles pulled out the victory in a game televised by Access Sacramento. It will re-air on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

JV Basketball Routs Pleasant Grove 69-32

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Reina Deol scored a game-high 13 points among eight players with at least five points as the St. Francis junior varsity team routed Pleasant Grove 69-32 Friday night.

Deol scored 11 of her 13 points in the first half as the Troubadours built a 43-19 advantage. Marlee Nicolos scored 10 of her 11 points in the half. Logan Kelly scored 12 points in the win, including eight n the second half.

Mary Baccay and Skyler Maccoun each added eight in the win.

Freshmen Post Comeback Win over Granite Bay

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Down by 13 entering the fourth quarter, the St. Francis freshmen team out-scored Granite Bay 20-6 over the final period to post a 40-37 come-from-behind victory Friday night.

St. Francis (13-3) was led by Morgan Kaeser’s 10 points, including four in the fourth quarter. Nicole Frank scored five of her eight points in the fourth and Isabella Quiniola had all seven of her points in the comeback effort in the fourth.

St. Francis scored just seven points in the first half and trailed 22-7 and trailed 33-20 after the third period.

Basketball Wins Fifth in a Row

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Lauren Craig had 17 points and Susie Rogers added 10 as St. Francis won its fourth straight league game and fifth consecutive overall with a 60-40 victory over Grant.

Junior Yvonna Molodanof was among three players who had seven points in the contest, including Fairbrook and Angie Ortiz.

“We are on a very good streak right now,” said Molodanof. “We have to keep it up with Pleasant Grove on Friday.”

JV Basketball Rolls to Victory over Grant

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Reina Deol had 10 points including two three-pointers as the St. Francis JV team posted a 65-38 victory over Grant Tuesday night.

The Troubadours jumped out to a 20-7 lead as six players scored in the first quarter. They extended the lead in the second with another 20-point effort behind five points by Avery Myers. Deol scored seven of her 10 points in the second half as the Troubies sealed the victory.

Marlee Nicolos scored a team-best 13 points and Logan Kelly had 12 points, including eight over the first 16 minutes.

2014 Volleyball Highlights

  • St. Francis advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section semifinals before losing to eventual state runner-up Pitman. They were the No. 4 seed overall entering the tournament.
  • The Troubadours posted a 30-12 overall record under Head Coach Alynn Wright, who coached her 26th season at St. Francis. St.

Freshmen Basketball Posts Victory over Placer

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Kelly Kraeger scored 11 points to lead St. Francis to a 52-26 victory over Placer Tuesday night. The Troubadours avenged a season-opening loss to Placer 40-34 and improved to 11-3 on the season.

“Kelly did great,” said Head Coach Ray Poncini.  “She is doing now what we trying to get a lot of the girls to do – drive to the hoop and be strong. She is using an effective pump fake to get the girls up and drive around them. She played with a lot of confidence tonight. She has come a long way.”

Three Troubadours Named to Sacramento Bee All-Metro Team

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Kylie Green was the selected to the Sacramento Bee All-Metro first-team, leading three Troubadours on the team including Anna Donald (second team) and Marissa Gollnick (honorable mention).

Green, who is from Gold River, led the Delta League with a 437 kills during the season while averaging 3.7 kills per set, the second-best mark in the league. She ranked seventh in Division I in kills (29th in the state). She had 24 games of 10 or more kills, earning selection to the Delta League first team. She has signed with UC Irvine.

Pleasant Grove Game to be Broadcast on Access Sacramento Friday; Game Time Changed

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Access Sacramento will show the St. Francis-Pleasant Grove game live Friday night, January 30 at 7:15 p.m. The scheduled game time was adjusted to accommodate for the live broadcast.

The game is part of the Hometown Game of the Week. Access Sacramento can be seen on Comcast and Consolidated Communications (SureWest) cable on Channel 17 and on AT&T U-Verse Channel 14 and 99. Broadcasts are also streamed on the internet on www.AccessSacramento.org (Push Watch TV Channel 17).

Basketball Sweeps Monterey Trail

The St. Francis varsity basketball team won its fourth consecutive game and third straight league game with a 53-35 victory over Monterey Trail. Kyra Huffman had a team-best 14 points, while Susie Rogers scored 11 and Angie Ortiz contributed 10 in the win.

The JV team won 72-23 as three players scored in double figures. Marlee Nicolos led the team with 14 points and Amara Allen and Logan Kelly each contributed 10 points. The freshmen team posted a 57-16 win to bounce back after falling to Roseville on Thursday. Morgan Kaeser led the team with 15 points.

Kelly Hits Game Winner at Buzzer for Win over Franklin

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis junior varsity team posted a last minute comeback against Franklin to post a 55-53 victory on Jan. 20. Marlee Nicholos had the game-tying basket and Logan Kelly hit the game winner at the buzzer off an assist by Avery Myers.

Kelly finished with a game-high 17 points including seven in the final period. Amara Allen added 11 points and Mary Baccay had seven points.
