Here are the preseason notes about soccer tryouts for the upcoming season for the three levels.

Former Soccer Standout Gregg Named to NSCAA All-America Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Former Troubadour soccer standout Anna Gregg, a 2015 graduate of St. Francis, was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Fall High School All-America team, the organization announced Monday.

Gregg, she was one of 43 named to the national team, recently completed her freshmen season at Colorado College. She saw action in 22 games and recorded two assists.

Soccer Team Named 2014-15 NSCAA High School Team Academic Award Recipient

SACRAMENTO, Calif.– The St. Francis Girls’ Team was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with the 2014-15 High School Team Academic Award. The team had a 3.61 combined grade point average last spring.

The NSCAA annually recognizes high school soccer programs that have excelled in the classroom, in addition to their performance on the field.

Soccer’s Aly Barr Commits to William Jessup

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior soccer player Aly Barr sees her future and it will be at William Jessup University in Rocklin.  She has verbally committed to the school to play soccer next fall, following in the footsteps of one of her older brothers and continuing a family soccer tradition in college.

“I really love the campus,” said Barr. “The school is a lot like St. Francis, small and people want to get to know you. I really like the soccer team and coach.”

Troubie Takeover at the Causeway Cup

DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis women’s soccer team posted a 2-1 victory over Sacramento State on Monday in the annual Causeway Cup matchup between the programs in a match that featured three former St. Francis Troubadours and a fourth waiting for her opportunity.

“It felt really good,” said Aggie junior Andi Damian ’13 of the win. “It is good to keep that going for us.”

The game featured Damian, senior Hayley Hughes ’12 and Sacramento State junior Jennifer Lum ’12. Freshman Allie Carmickle ’15 is a reserve goalkeeper for the Aggies.

Twelve Alumnae Playing NCAA Soccer

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – NCAA Soccer teams across the country start their 2015 seasons this week and there are 12 Troubadour alumnae soccer players on rosters this season: Catie Brown ’15 (SMU), Terra Carden ’14 (Pacific), Allie Carmickle ’15 (UC Davis), Katie Clark ’12 (U.S. Coast Guard Academy), Izzi Chelini ’15 (Cal Lutheran), Andrea Damian ’13 (UC Davis), Emily Egan ’14 (Georgia Southern), Anna Gregg ’15 (Colorado College), Haley Hughes ’12 (UC Davis), Madison Kimball ’15 (Loyola Chicago), Jennifer Lum ’12 (Sacramento State) and Addie Wallace ’15 (Villanova).

Gregg Named to TopDrawerSoccer.com Spring All-America Second Team

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Anna Gregg, a 2015 graduate of St. Francis, was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Spring All-America Second Team, as announced on the website. Gregg will play soccer on scholarship at Colorado College this fall.

Gregg led St. Francis to Sac-Joaquin Section final on May 17. She scored a Delta League best 32 goals on the season in 2015 with a league-best 72 points. She also recorded eight assists, the second-best total in the league. The Folsom product recorded three or more goals four times season and recorded 12 multi-goal games during season.

Soccer Alumna Gregg Named World University Games Participant

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Alumna Anna Gregg ’14 will represent Colorado College and the United States at the 2015 World University Games in Gwangju, Korea, from July 3-14.

The 20 players competing as Team USA in Gwangju, Korea, are a collection of current, former and future Tigers, including 10 who helped CC advance to the 2013 NCAA Tournament after claiming the Conference USA regular-season and tournament championships. Eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens who are current athletes or recent graduates, born between Jan. 1, 1990, and Dec. 31, 1997.

St. Francis Alumna Calderon Represents Mexico in World Cup

Moncton, CANADA – St. Francis alumna Ariana Calderon made the Mexican national team for the upcoming Women’s World Cup in Canada but a recent injury will keep her on the sideline.

“Due to my injury, I will not be playing in the World Cup this year,” said Calderon on Instagram Thursday night. “I gave it everything I had, but it was not in God’s plan. Thank you to those who reached out and (have) given me strength during this time. I wish my teammates the best of luck. I can’t wait to get back in the Mexico jersey.”

River Cats All-City Team
11 Troubaours Receive Local Honor

The Sacramento River Cats recognized their 2014-15 All-City team before today’s baseball game. Eleven Troubadours were selected to the respective sports all-city teams and senior soccer player Anna Gregg was named the River Cats Girls Soccer Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Junior Varsity Soccer: Season in Review

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis junior varsity soccer team finished off the season strong by winning four of their last five to post a 12-7 record on the season. They showed great improvement on the field over the course of the season.

“The chemistry between the girls was the most inspiring thing,” said Head Coach Justin Boyer. “For a year when we didn’t have a ton of success results-wise, we grew a lot as a team throughout the year. We grew both physically and emotionally moving forward.”

Soccer Finishes Season with Loss in Section Finals

ELK GROVE, Calif. – No. 2 Seed Franklin scored twice in the first half and added a third goal to defeat No. 5 seed St. Francis 3-0 in the final of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs Saturday.

“The ride was fantastic,” said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “That is the concern when you have such a big win in the semis against such a tough opponent to try to keep it together. We had some hurdles. We were a little thin in the back not to take anything away from Franklin. It was not our day.”

Soccer to Defend Section Title after Upset at No. 1 Davis

DAVIS, Calif. – Senior Rachel Schaefer scored a first-half goal and seniors Catie Brown and Allie Carmickle played an amazing game in goal to lead No. 5. seed St. Francis to a 1-0 victory over Davis Wednesday.

“Davis is a great team and they are by far the best team we have faced,” said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “We had to make some adjustments and we did. Mostly, we played as a team. We had some individual matchups I felt good about.”

Varsity Soccer Banquet

The Varsity Soccer held its annual team banquet on Wednesday, May 11. Anna Gregg received the 2015 Cornerstone and Offensive MVP awards, while senior Rachel Schaefer was the Defensive MVP. Junior Hailey Barrett was given the 2015 Iron Women Award.

St. Francis Soccer Earns Fifth Seed in Section Playoffs
Troubadours Start Title Defense against Woodcreek

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Defending Sac-Joaquin Section champion St. Francis will enter next week’s playoffs as the fifth overall seed and will host No. 12 Woodcreek on Tuesday, May 5 in a first-round game at 4 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for K-12 and children 5 and under are free.

The Troubadours finished third in the Delta League with a 10-2-2 and posted a 16-2-2 overall mark in the regular season under Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. St. Francis won the Cal Spring Classic in February as part of six consecutive wins to start the season.

Seven Players Score in Soccer Win at Grant

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Seven different players scored a goal as the St. Francis varsity soccer team closed the regular season with a 7-0 win over Grant Wednesday. Hailey Barrett, Anna Gregg, Avery Spector and Savannah Watson tallied first half goals, while Raegan Jobe, Kirsten Kjome and Ashley Newland each scored in the second half.
