Six Triples by Bagatelos Paces Junior Varsity

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Nika Bagatelos had a career-high 24 points behind six three-pointers and Lauren Pank added 14 in a 60-39 win over Antelope Saturday.

“We been working really well as a team together,” said freshman Lauren Pank. “Whether it is passing, rebounds or shots, we are getting really good teamwork.”

Bagatelos started hot with 10 points in the first quarter and added two threes in both the second and third quarters.

“When the first one went in, it was just feeling right,” said Bagatelos, who is averaging 10.2 points per game.

Rasmussen Leads Frosh to Win over Antelope

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – McKinley Rasmussen scored seven points as the St. Francis freshmen won their sixth consecutive game with a 45-11 victory over Antelope Saturday. The Troubadours won their sixth consecutive game to improve to 14-4 overall.

Both teams got off to a slow start with St. Francis leading 6-2 after the first eight minutes. Gabi Lopez scored four points to pace the team. The offensive pace picked up in the second as Brynne Burrows got started with seven points and Reilly McDonald added two baskets. SF held the Titans to just two baskets and led 19-6.

Antelope Hands Basketball Loss 69-55

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Antelope made 12 three-pointers and used a 14-2 run to start the fourth quarter to pull away from St. Francis 69-55 in a matchup of two of the area’s top teams. The Titans were ranked No. 2 by the Sacramento Bee, while St. Francis was No. 5 in the latest poll.

Titan Nadia Johnson made seven three-pointers for a game-high 21 points, while her teammate A.J. Baylon added 19 and Nia Johnson scored 14.

Basketball Improves to 4-0 in the Delta League with Win over Sheldon

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Four players scored in double figures as St. Francis rolled to an 85-36 win over Sheldon Friday night to improve to 4-0 in Delta League play.

“It was a lot of fun tonight,” said freshman Jackie Koerwitz, who scored five points and grabbed a career-high eight rebounds. “Everyone got to play a lot and show how hard they have been working in practice. “

Basketball Posts 58-48 Win over Elk Grove

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Kyra Huffman scored 14 of her 18 points as St. Francis pulled away from Elk Grove in the second half for a 58-48 victory in a Delta League matchup.

“We took the pain of losing Saturday and turned it into some fire today,” said Huffman. “We do not want to lose any more games. It felt really good to be back on our home court.”

The Troubadours trailed at the half 21-19 as Thundering Herd junior Mira Shulman scored nine points. She finished with a game-high 22 points.

Basketball Drops Holy Hoops Game

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis was out-scored 22-9 in the fourth quarter and missed their last nine free throws as Christian Brothers posted a 52-47 victory in the annual Holy Hoops game between the rivals Saturday in front of a sold out crowd.

“We had a lot of unforced turnovers, some forced and poor handling of the ball,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “We had plenty of opportunities. We failed to capitalize.”

Frank Leads JV Basketball in Holy Hoops

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Nicole Frank scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the St. Francis junior varsity basketball team posted a 66-39 win over Christian Brothers in the Holy Hoops matchup.

“The energy was great and our team really worked together to get all the points we had,” said Frank. “It was the passing and our chemistry together. The rhythm was really great.”

Frosh Open Holy Hoops with Big Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Krysta Alvarez scored a team-high 12 points to lead St. Francis to a 44-14 win over Christian Brothers to start off a fun Holy Hoops trifecta of games Saturday.

“It feels great,” said Alvarez. “We had team work and the crowd was great so I have to give props to them and our coaches. It is awesome. We played as a team so it felt great.”

Alvarez scored baskets in all four quarters and had multiple baskets in both the first and fourth quarters as the Troubadours improved to 11-4 on the season. She added seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Basketball Defeats Davis at Sleep Train; Prepares for Holy Hoops

NATOMAS, Calif. – After a nervous first half, the St. Francis varsity basketball team calmed themselves to hand Davis a 67-59 loss at Sleep Train Arena Friday night as part of a doubleheader at the home of the Sacramento Kings.

“It was such a great experience and it was so fun to watch my tem come together and play as a unit,” said senior Aliyah Williams, who scored two points. “It is exactly what we wanted.”

Senior Kyra Huffman led the team with 22 points, including 15 in the second half to fuel the win for the Troubadours.

Burrows Buries Davis with Career-High 16 Points in Freshmen Win

DAVIS, Calif. – Brynne Burrows scored a career-high 16 points to lead the St. Francis freshmen to the 41-25 win over Davis Thursday night.

“I was really nervous before the game,” said Burrows. “After the first quarter, I think I loosened up and got comfortable. We started attacking the basket and playing really good defense all together which helped.”

Kaeser’s Basket Caps Comeback Win at Davis for JV Hoops

DAVIS, Calif. – Sophomore Morgan Kaeser hit the game-winning basket to cap off a furious comeback in the final three minutes as St. Francis defeated Davis 56-54 Thursday night.

“It is huge,” said Kaeser of the win. “It is probably one of our biggest competitions and is especially great before Holy Hoops.”

St. Francis (10-2) trailed 51-40 as the clock went under three minutes remaining in the game. But freshmen Nika Bagatelos keyed the rally for the Troubadours, hitting three consecutive three-pointers and Kaeser added a basket.

Basketball Opens League with Win at PG

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Junior Janae Fairbrook had a team-high 22 points to lead St. Francis to a 64-54 win over Pleasant Grove in the Delta League opener for both teams.

“”It was great and really important that we go the “W”,” said Fairbrook of the league win. “It shows how we have progressed in the preseason and are ready for the season.”

Frosh Basketball Posts 41-0 Shutout over Dixon

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  – Gabi Lopez scored a game-high 17 points as Sat. Francis freshmen basketball team shutout Dixon 41-0 in the home opener for the team. The Troubadours improved to 9-4 on the season.

Lopez scored nine of her 17 points in the first half as SF built a 27-0 lead. Krysta Alvarez added 10 points and Lily McLoughlin chipped in eight points. Sydney Galvan, Brynne Burrows and McKinley Rasmussen each added two points in the win.

St. Francis travels to Davis on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. for a Delta League matchup with the Blue Devils.

Holy Hoops Game to Be Televised by Access Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Access Sacramento will televise the St. Francis-Christian Brothers Holy Hoops matchup on Saturday, Jan. 9 for re-broadcast as part of the Hometown Sports Game of the Week. The actual re-broadcast dates will be announced.

Access Sacramento Game of the Week can be seen on Comcast and Consolidated Communications (SureWest) cable on Channel 17 and on AT&T U-Verse Channel 14 and 99. All broadcasts are streamed live on the internet on www.AccessSacramento.org (Push Watch TV Channel 17).

Fifteen Basketball Games to be Shown on TroubieTV

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  – The Sports Media Club will broadcast 15 St. Francis basketball games on TroubieTV over the next two months and all varsity postseason games, starting with the freshmen basketball game against Dixon on Tuesday, January 5. The first week will also feature the St. Francis game against Davis at Sleep Train Arena on Friday, Jan. 8.

Three Volleyball Players Earn Delta League Honors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Three St. Francis volleyball players earned Delta All-League honors in 2015 as voted by the league coaches. Senior Ashlynn Fresques joined juniors Kelsey Grover and Claire Schutz on the all-league team.

Fresques was second on the team in kills with a team-best 3.8 kills per set. She recorded double-digit kills in 12 of 16 matches played. She was also selected to play in the Optimist All-Star game.

Grover recorded a team-best 463 assists on the season, averaging 6.3 per set. She was third in the league in total assists.

Basketball Loses West Coast Jamboree Final

PLEASANT HILL, Calif. – The St. Francis varsity basketball team lost in the final of the Ruby Bracket to Sheldon (Ore.) 67-63 at the West Coast Jamboree Wednesday.

Senior Lauren Craig led the team with 24 points, scoring 20 second-half points to lead a valiant comeback effort. St. Francis (9-2) fell behind in the first half after Autumn Baumgartner scored 32 points for the Irish.

Junior Janae Fairbrook tallied 14 points and senior Kyra Huffman added 13 in the loss.

Basketball Reaches West Coast Jamboree Championship

PLEASANT HILL, Calif. – St. Francis basketball advanced to the championship game of the Ruby bracket of the West Coast Jamboree with a 58-50 win over previously undefeated Acalanes. Seniors Kyra Huffman and Lauren Craig combined for 27 points as the Troubadours advanced to Wednesday’s final against Sheldon (Ore.) at 6 p.m.

Acalanes (10-1) was out-scored 22-12 in the final quarter as the Troubadours pulled ahead in the final quarter. Craig scored nine of her 13 points, while Huffman added four baskets as the senior duo put away the Dons.
