Three Cross Country Runners Finish Season at Foot Locker West Regional

WALNUT, Calif. – Three St. Francis cross country standouts capped their seasons with participation in the Foot Locker West Regional Cross Country Championships.

Sophomore Sydney Vandegrift placed 39th overall in the girls seeded race with a time of 19:24.4. Seniors Chase Worthen (20:38.4) and Gabrielle dyer (22:07.2) placed 110th and 139th overall.

All three competed for Oak Hill Racing.

JV Hoops Falls to Sacramento in Tourney Final

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis junior varsity basketball team placed second in the Battle on the Bridge Tournament on Saturday, dropping a 66-51 decision to Sacramento in the championship game.

“I think we did great,” said Ally Gage. “We passed the ball and played like a team.”

Nika Bagatelus led the team with 13 points in the loss, while Nicole Frank scored nine points for the Troubadours.

St. Francis (2-1) had two players earn all-tournament honors, including freshmen Jorie Keitges and Ally Gage.

Basketball Wins Folsom-Vista Tip-Off

FOLSOM, Calif. – Senior Kyra Huffman recorded a double-double and junior Janae Fairbrook scored a career-high 22 points to lead St. Francis to a 73-41 victory over fifth-ranked Folsom in claim the Folsom-Vista Tip-Off title Friday night.

“Before the game we talked about earning carrots, what Coach Vic (Pitton) likes to call them,” said Huffman, who scored 18 points and had 15 rebounds. “This is a stepping stone into our season and I think it was great to put that energy out there.”

Basketball Advances to Tip-Off Finals with Big Win

FOLSOM, Calif. – Four players scored in double figures and St. Francis opened the game with a 23-0 run to cruise into the finals of the Vista-Folsom Tip-Off with a 76-14 win over Vista del Lago.

“We put good pressure on the ball and rotated well into the passing lanes and got a lot of deflections and steals and then we were off to the races,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “We were really running the floor well looking to share it. We finished most of them tonight.”

The winter season highlights the basketball program at St. Francis. The JV and varsity teams will host Kennedy on Tuesday, December 8, and both the freshmen and junior varsity teams play in tournaments this week. The frosh team will play in the Bella Vista JV Tournament December 10-12, while the JV team compete in the Robby Nakamura JV Tournament at Kennedy. Basketball Opens Season with 72-50 Win over Ponderosa

FOLSOM, Calif. – Senior Lauren Craig scored 20 points and senior Tia Hay added 19 to lead St. Francis to a 72-50 victory over Ponderosa Wednesday in the opening game of the Folsom-Vista Tip-Off. The Bruins entered the game ranked No. 6 in the Sacramento Bee preseason rankings.

“It felt great and gave us a lot of confidence,” said Craig. “It is going to help us moving forward because we know we can come together as a team and pull out the win.”

Basketball Teams Tip-Off in Three Area Tournaments

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  – All three St. Francis basketball teams will take part in various tournaments across the city this week starting with the varsity team in the Folsom-Vista Tipoff Wednesday afternoon.

The Troubadours, who were 66-53 winners over West Campus Monday night, take on Ponderosa at 4 p.m. at Folsom High School. They play co-host Vista del Lago on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Folsom.

The Junior Varsity team will open its season at 3:45 p.m. Thursday against Rocklin in River Cirty in the Battle on the Bridge tournament.

Basketball Pulls Away on West Campus to Win 66-53

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Janae Fairbrook scored 16 second-half points to help St. Francis post a 66-53 victory over West Campus Monday night in the Sac-Joaquin Section Foundation game.

“I was feeling it and it was really cool to see my team feeding off my energy,” said Fairbrook.

Tied at 24 at the half and holding just a four-point lead heading into the final quarter, Fairbrook scored eight points in the final quarter as the Troubadours pulled away from the Warriors. She finished with a game-high 19 points with five three-pointers on the night.

Three Water Polo Players Garner All-Section First Team

LODI, Calif. – The St. Francis water polo team was well represented on the Sac-Joaquin Section teams selected by the area coaches, earning three first-team members and three second-team choices, Overall, the Troubadours had eight student-athletes earn all-section accolades.

Seniors Jennalyn Barthels, Maggie Oys and Ally Tambornini were each named to the Sac-Joaquin Section first team, while Barthels and Oys earned consideration for All-America team consideration.

Cross Country Earns Top-10 State Finish

FRESNO, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country finished eighth at the CIF State Cross Country Championships held at Woodward Park Saturday. It was the fifth consecutive Top 10 finish for the Troubadours at the state meet.

Sophomore Sydney Vandegrift led the team for the ninth time this season, crossing the line 17th overall in 18:14.7. Seniors Ariane Arndt and Chase Worthen were 27th and 28th respectively in a near dead heat at 18:25. All three runners had personal-bests over the 3.1-mile course.

2015 Golf Highlights

  • St. Francis finished fourth at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament. The Troubadours shot a 459 team score to tie with Vista del Lago for fourth place overall. Granite Bay was the top qualifier with a 406 followed by Oak Ridge at 422 and Rocklin at 450. Seniors Kristi Lee and Mikia Fang led the team with identical rounds of 15-over par 87.

2015 Tennis Highlights

  • The Troubadour tennis team advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section semifinals. They advanced with wins over Vacaville (9-0) and Del Oro (5-4).
  • The team posted a 15-2 overall record under Kristi Spector, including an 11-1 Delta League mark to finish tied for first with Franklin. It was the first league title since 2012.
  • St. Francis senior Avery Spector was named the Delta League Most Valuable Player by a vote of the coaches and earned all-league honors for the third consecutive season. Spector finished the season with a 13-4 dual match record and 17-5 overall mark.

Basketball Team to Play Davis at Sleep Train Arena

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis varsity basketball team will play Davis Friday, January 8 at Sleep Train Arena at 6 p.m. The game will be part of a doubleheader with the Jesuit- Davis boys game tipping off at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the game can be purchased online for $30 and includes a ticket to the February 29 Sacramento Kings game against the Oklahoma Thunder.

Tennis’ Spector Named Delta League MVP

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Avery Spector was named the Delta League Most Valuable Player by a vote of the coaches. Spector led the Troubadour tennis team to a Delta League title and the Sac-Joaquin Section semifinals.

“It is one of the best things that has happened to me at St. Francis,” said Spector. “It was really awesome, especially in my senior year. It was definitely a highlight of the season.”

Spector finished the season with a 13-4 dual match record and 17-5 overall mark. She was 10-2 in league matches.

Cross Country Advances to State Championships; Wins Frosh/Soph Section Title

FOLSOM, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team qualified for the CIF State Cross Country Championships with a second-place finish at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 2 meet on Saturday. It is the fifth consecutive state appearance for the Troubadours, who have finished among the Top 10 in the each of the last four seasons.

Sophomore Sydney Vandegrift crossed the third overall in 18:53 to lead St. Francis.

Water Polo Wins Section Championship over Davis

Water Polo Wins Section Championship over Davis

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Junior Sally Ferguson scored two times in the fourth period to help St. Francis to a 6-5 victory over Davis to the win the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I Championship.

“I am actually numb,” said Head Coach Heather Moody. “There is a group of girls that I have been working with for the last three years, 10 amazing seniors, that really set the tone for this year and took ownership of the whole group, leading and truly believing.”

It was the fourth section title in water polo for St. Francis in school history and first since 2008.

Water Polo plays Davis at 4 p.m. on Saturday for the Sac-Joaquin Section Championship. Volleyball is in action Thursday (Nov.12) at Granite Bay in the Division II bracket, while tennis had its season end on Veteran’s Day in the section semifinals with a 6-3 loss to Rocklin. Cross country will attempt to qualify this weekend for the state championships on Thanksgiving weekend.
