Gregg Scores Career-High Four Goals in Win

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Anna Gregg scored a career-best four goals to lead St. Francis to a 4-0 victory over Sheldon Monday night. She improved her Delta League leading goal total to 26 for the season. St. Francis improved to 14-1-2 and 8-1-2 in league play. SF is ranked No. 3 in the state by MaxPreps.

The four goals marked the 10th multiple-goal game of the season for Gregg, who had recorded hat tricks against Elk Grove and Pleasant Grove.

2014 Tennis Highlights

The Troubadour tennis team advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section quarterfinals for the second consecutive season before losing 5-4 at St. Mary’s. They team advanced in the playoffs with wins over Franklin (S) and Gregori of Modesto.

The team posted a 14-4 overall record under Kristi Spector, including a 10-2 Delta League mark to finish second.

Crooks Helps Swimming to School-Best Second at NorCals

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Senior Erin Crooks posted two top-five finishes and swam on a pair of relays to help St. Francis to a second-place finish at the 2015 NorCal Swimming Championships held at the Roseville Aquatic Center. St. Francis finished with 312 points to place behind only Granite Bay as the Troubadours recorded 23 top-16 performances, including 12 in the top eight.

Lacrosse Posts Shutout over Casa Roble

ORANGEVALE, Calif. – Senior Colleen McClain and freshman Juliette Vielhauer each scored three goals as St. Francis posted a 15-0 victory over Casa Roble on Friday night.

Vielhauer, who entered the game with four goals on the season, tallied her best game as a Troubadour with three goals, while McClain’s three scores were a season-high. Hayley Kusserow and Maggie Anderson each added two goals, while the Troubies got single goals by five players. Meg Anderson, Emily Bush, Megan Hoffeditz, Ryleigh Bone and Grace Passantino.

Baccay, Kanemasu Key Softball Win over Pleasant Grove

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis posted a 9-5 come-from-behind win over Pleasant Grove behind a complete game by Jada Kanemasu and three-hit games by Danika Baily and Lauren Washburn Friday.

Pleasant Grove scored four in the top of the first inning aided by a three-run home run by Katherine Antigua. But St. Francis, which rallied from four down against Pleasant Grove earlier in the season to win 12-10, rallied behind their offense and Kanemasu.

Lacrosse Falls to Oak Ridge

EL DORADO, Calif. – Ryleigh Bone scored five goals but the Troubadours lacrosse team fell at Oak Ridge 18-8 on Thursday. It was the second five-goal game of the season for Bone, who participated in a signing ceremony earlier in the day. Erica Palmer added two goals and Colleen McClain also scored for the St. Francis (4-6). The Troubadours travel to Casa Roble on Thursday for a game at 6:30 p.m.

Soccer defeats Elk Grove 1-0

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Hailey Barrett scored in the 24th minute and St. Francis made it stand as Meredith Kaeser and her teammates posted a 1-0 shutout over Elk Grove in windy conditions.

“I had a breakaway and placed it in the corner,” said Barrett of her seventh goal of the season. “The wind always creates a challenge for us especially going against it. We go the goal with the wind so we just had to play defense in the second half.”

Junior Bridget Foy assisted on the goal by Barrett.

Spring National Signing Day

Seven Troubadours signed or commited to colleges and universities around the country on Wednesday to play collegiate sports next fall. Overall, 22 St. Francis seniors have made commitments to play sports next fall.

Senior Hunter to Run for UC Riverside

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Sydney Hunter has always wanted to extend her track career into college. After receiving an offer from UC Riverside, she will sign with the Highlanders to run track next fall.

“I can’t imagine my life without track so I am very excited,” said Hunter. “Ever since I was seven I wanted to run track in college. I will run for as long as my body allows me to run track.”

Perez to Row for Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Claire Perez only started rowing two years ago but she will get to keep working on her craft after committing to compete for Sacramento State for the next four years.

“I did not expect it,” said Perez. “I only started rowing last year. I did not think I would be good enough to row in college. But I worked really hard the last two years to build up my skills to catch up to girls that have been rowing for a while.”

Perez, who is from Sacramento, rows for River City Rowing and Tricia Blocher, the RCRC Executive Director.

Sullivan to Dive for UCSD Tritons

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior diver Patty Sullivan has always known how to flip. As a former gymnast, she made the transition to diving during her freshmen season. On Wednesday, she will sign with UC San Diego to continue her career on the boards.

“I am really excited,” said Sullivan. “I always wanted to do a sport in college because I like the team aspect. Being able to dive in college is a really big thing for me.”

After a nine-year career in gymnastics, Sullivan continues to get better with each season.

Lance to Swim at Loyola Marymount

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Kristen Lance will join the Loyola Marymount swimming program next season.

“I am real excited,” said Lance. “I visited and went on a recruit trip this past weekend. The team is a family. I felt already welcomed and part of the team. I love the coach, the campus and I could not be more excited.”

Lance, who is from Carmichael, plans to study political science with a focus in international relations and minor economics.

Soccer Ties Davis 2-2 in Battle of Top-Ranked Teams

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Anna Gregg scored two goals but Davis responded both times to force a 2-2 tie in a matchup of two of the Delta League and state’s top teams Monday.

“We are in a place where we are moving forward,” said Interim Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “You can see it and feel it. I am really pleased with that. Would I have liked to get a “W” if we could have held on, sure, but they are a good team.”

Softball Defeats Monterey Trail

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Akeylah Moses went 3-for-3 and Emily Ainsley pitched five scoreless innings to lead St. Francis to a 10-0 victory over Monterey Trail on Friday. The league game was sandwiched between games at the Tracy Tournament over the weekend.

“We did a lot better job communicating and hitting,” said Moses. “We were communicating what we saw at the plate. We were working as a team better.”

The Troubadours jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Moses had a run-scoring single and Rhyann O’Mara added another run with a single, scoring Lauren Washburn.

Track and Field Posts Memorable Weekend at Arcadia

ARCADIA, Calif. – Junior Ariane Arndt won the Arcadia Invitational 800 meters in a personal-best and school record 2:10.05 Saturday.

The time ranks third in the country among times posted entering the weekend. It was the third consecutive meet Arndt had set a personal-best and second straight school-record performance. She originally broke the mark last Saturday at the Stanford Invitational with a time of 2:13.71. She reset a mark set in 2003 by Ingrid Kantola (2:14.69).

Thrower Samantha Ruggles Commits to UCSB

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior thrower Samantha Ruggles will continue her throwing career at UC Santa Barbara next year.

“I visited about a month ago and I really liked it there,” said Ruggles. “It was my favorite. It is what I want for academics and throwing. I really like the coach. It was the best fit.”

Ruggles recently finished ninth at the Stanford Invitational.

“I was excited because I had not made them (finals) before in my third year in the meet,” said Ruggles. “It was fun and I am happy to make the final.”

Divers Posts Two Top Scores against Franklin, Sheldon

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Patty Sullivan and freshman Molly Wilson were the top two divers on Wednesday in a meet held at Franklin High School against the Wildcats and the Sheldon Huskies. Sullivan posted a 218.35 to record the top score, while Wilson was second with a 183.35. Sophomore Kat Yo placed fourth (149.20), senior Jordan Schrock was fifth, freshman Camille Lutes finished eighth and freshman Quinn Ruggles was 11th overall.

The Troubadours compete against on Wednesday April 15 against Monterey Trail before competing in the Jesuit Invitational on April 18.
